Chas Posted March 23 Posted March 23 He was the last to interviewJohn Lennon two days before his assassination, there's a great documentary about it. He was on BBC radio Manchester in the early 70's, always liked his presenting style, another sad loss.
Soulandy Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Used to listen to his soul shows on Piccadilly Radio back in the 70's that helped get me into Northern. Another sad loss. Condolences to his family and friends. 1
Popular Post Soulfinger Posted March 23 Popular Post Posted March 23 Soul Train was compulsory listening in the mid 70's. Andy regularly had good Northern guests on too. He used to DJ at the Village in Stretford as well. I chatted to him about music a few times when I used to bump into him at the cricket at OT. Nice fella. 5
Ian Parker Posted March 23 Posted March 23 wheel attendee, i seem to recall. i did like his soul show, on radio 2 1
Popular Post Frankie Crocker Posted March 23 Popular Post Posted March 23 Sad loss. Was compulsory listening on Piccadilly Radio in Manchester mid to late70’s. Thoroughly deserved the step up from local radio to the BBC. Sure knew good music did Andy. 6
Mickey Finn Posted March 25 Posted March 25 A true professional, whose job as a radio presenter he was able to use as a way of introducing people to the music that was his first love. Mr Blackburn is another, despite their very different styles. The Lennon interview was an amazing piece of luck. From memory, there was a write-in type of discussion show on Radio 1 on Sundays (Studio B15, presented by Adrian Love?) and someone wrote in asking "What's happened to John Lennon?" From that came the interview recordings and book. RIP. 2
Steve W Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Very sad news. A true soul fan whose record choices on Piccadilly Radio in the early seventies such as Denise Lasalle 'Here I am Again, Lamonts 'Fish aint Bitin' and Originals California Sunset album lit up the airwaves and were halcyon days for NW soul fans. RIP to a great broadcaster 3
