Guest Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 (edited) Never really got to know Pete, as he passed not long after I met him, but I am aware of the high regard in which he is held on the scene..... it certainly doesn't seem like 14 years ago.... Great record this Joan .....remember hearing it first at Tony's and sounding brilliant...listening to it as I type....Fabulous... Edited March 30, 2007 by DelTee

Dave Thorley Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Pete was a one-off, but in many way he spoke for the everyman soul fan. One of Staffords biggest supporters, always out spoken, always with a strong opinion. In many of his heart wrenching letters he spoke of wanting to 'make a change', he didn't make it. But he left a mark, that many could only wish for. Always missed and always loved. Here's to you mateMake a change - johnny rogers - amon

Iancsloft Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Pete was my best mate the tune that reminds my of Pete is Jimmy Ratcliffe-Long after tonite is all over myself and Joan my ex wife hitched a lift back from watching Millie Jackson in Hanley with the Ormskirk crew back in the 70,s, Pete put the said 45 on his Discotron and played it over and over again all the way down the M6 the guys warned him several times to stop playing it and when they dropped myself n Joan off at Haydock they kicked him out of the minibus and drove off There,s not a week goes by without me thinkin of Pete be it a certain 45 that reminds me of him or someone phoning up who use to hang around with us ect.Pete was a mad sod but a really lovely bloke and in 1980 when i was seriously ill he was the only one who use to ring up every day or come down and spend time with me in fact he use to come down and spend a week at a time eat all our food get 45,s off me cheap do Joans head in an generally cause mayhem around the Cunliffe house he he yip that was Pete daft as a brush will never forget him dancin with a hoover at Tonys Ballroom in Blackburn or Clarence at the Droylsden niter throwin Pete several mtrs thro the air after a slight altercation regarding record boxes . Pete lived every second of every minute of every hour of the day for Black Americian Soul Music and his funeral and wake that day was a fitting tribute to Pete Gone but never Forgotten.. Loved him too bits Ian C
jocko Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I'm Losing Again - ray agee - for millionaires only cd Jeez Joan, cant believe its 14 years, still remember you calling me at my office desk all that time ago and just leaving my work in stunned silence, a character in the true sens, not in the currently overused sense. Not always agreeable, but always honest, made many mistakes but always did so within his principals which were ultimate to him.Cant do sound files from vinyl at moment or would have done Jack Montgomery DYBI and Joe Phillips on Omen 2 special records for himHave chosen some CD tracks, all remind me of Pete to some extent, but all remind me of dancing beside him, listening to his shoes slapping the dance floor in perfect time to the beat...... that was the true Pete Lawson. This thread is making me cry, not something I do often,
jocko Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I Wont Let Her See Me Cry - big frank & essence - northern soul lost and found cd Pete sometimes hit the floor louder than the volume of the record in the middle bit here!

jocko Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Forever In My Heart - temptations - this is northern soul AS somebody said in many ways in the 80's Pete was Northern Soul, and this record reminds me when I started to become real friends now with him. Through any tears has to be laughter and despite the rep there was always lots of laughter with Pete, honest daft laugter, like the time when Pete shoved a crab down his pants to prove how tough he was and then screamed like a baby.Special person. Off to a good friends wedding now and this will make me chuckle all day now!!
