Crazy rare Washington D.C. 45 and Keni Lewis first solo release. His other two solo records, "Ain't Gonna Make It Easy" on De-Val and "What's Her Name" on Buddah, are established dancefloor favorites. Keni Lewis was a member of the Cairos, whose Shrine release "Stop Overlooking Me" is a well known rarity. He also wrote for other Shrine artists like Shirley Edwards, The Epsilons and The Counts. This one used to be a cover-up for Andy Dyson and got a re-release through Epsilon records in the UK. The last copies sold some 15 years ago through ebay. Pittsburgh born Floyd Beck was a gifted guitar player and he recorded the sublime "What About Me" and the equally great "Unlucky Girl" on the flip as a member of the Exceptional Three on Way-Out. This is probably his hardest and best 45 and boogie devotees will suerly like the flipside of this.

Meanwhile the US release on Punch is hard to find and this one is even harder. Here is the promo copy of "Downtown Soulville", the title song of Matt Weingardens highly recomnended radio show, on Soul City. Dave Godin and David Nathans label, that was operated out of their record shop in London and had a major impact on the UK soul scene. Anyway, this is a funky 1968 dancer with gritty vocals. Shame about the missing push out centre, but that's why you can get this for fair money here.

Weird and wonderful private funky disco double sider from the streets of the US capitol. This is a one off 45 by James "Plunky" Nkabinde and his brother Muzi, who where both members of the Onenesses Of Juju. They obviously wanted to try out a more commercial sound with this release and get away from their traditional Afro sounding main band. Needless to say, that this record hardly left the shops of Washington D.C. and is now hard to find, especially in this nice condition. Check it out, it's great!

Raw and hard hitting Detroit 60's soul on one of Sonny Marshall's labels, "Star Trek" and "Whip" also run under his aegis. Sonny Marshall was arrested for drug trafficking in 1968 and his labels where all liquidated. This song later came out performed by Calvin Williams on Northern Del-La, but it's definitely Lee Jennings who hit the spot here.

As a Northern Soul fan, you will be familiar with Towanda Barnes raunchy version of "You Don't Mean It" on A&M released in 1969. This is the first release of this great song from 1967 by the mighty Ohio Players. Great uptempo sounds, that ticks all the boxes. Flip it over for another song, that got covered later on by the Skull Snaps for their legendary LP on GSF. Vinyl is super clean except one tiny surface mark, that does not sound at all.
