Grimsby Social & Reform Club

Again whilst going through an old copy of Blues and Soul , I came across a mention of a scene that I had forgotten about ....

Grimsby Social and Reform Club on Clee Road in Grimsby .

I had the pleasure of DJing there a couple of times in 1977 , as well as several visits during that period , and always found it to be a good scene .

Run by John Bradshaw and Gary Hudson , and was held every Monday and Friday night from 7.30 - 11 PM .

Are John and Gary still about ?

That I would have loved to have seen ...... :wicked:

Knowing John , he would have still made the sale ......

I can remember the lager being good at The Reform , but always found that to be the case with most Grimsby and Cleethorpes pubs when you had a drooth .....

Thanks to all who came back on this thread with their recollections .

Hi Malc,

I remember the social club very well. origanaly the entrance was at the front on Cleehorpes rd, but later moved around the side of Levington St, It is now a Bathroom Centre, it was another venue to visit as well as the Haiwian Eye soul club just up the road,

I often see Gary Hutson, as he is not far from me, but he hasn,t been on the scene for a long time, prefers his fishing. There used to be some memorable parties at John,s house in Granville St afterwards.

Rick Todd always said that your Dj spot at the Social club mentally scarred him for life  .

Enjoyed our chat at the Winter gardens reunion, we spoke in the foyer early on about 11am, about the venue you are running, and your thoughts on the modern scene.

Hi Carl ....

I looked for the Reform as I passed on the way to the reunion , travelling down Clee Road , and obviously , as it now a bathroom centre , that is why I could not not see it .

I had forgotten about the Hawaiian Eye ....

Nice one from Scotty :D

I have not forgotten about the CDs for your lad ; I mislaid the slip of paper you gave me ( along with several others from the day , with addresses etc . ) so if you will e-mail me - burtonmalc@yahoo.co.uk - with the relevent details , I will get them to you . I could also do with a contact number for Scotty if you can oblige .

Likewise , enjoyed our talk at the reunion .

Hiya Carl,

Ted has a message for Gary Hudson. Next time you bump into him, tell him Ted Couldstone says...."COME INTO THE PARLOUR SAID THE SPIDER TO THE FLY"...then watch his face.

Many years ago...Gary had called at Teds house at a very inoportune moment(Ted had got uninvited visitors !!!)...on arriving at Teds front door Gary lifted the flap and shouted...DRUG SQUAD....OPEN UP..WE KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE COULDSTONE

His face was a picture as the drug squad officer opened the door, and said "come into the parlour said the spider to the fly"...The joke had backfired very badly !!!
