Thank you for posting!! Is the poets seriously that much???? I feel like I've heard that played out loads of times??? Not by the so called A list djs as suggested? Or am I totally wrong? ?  it's possible!!. Thank you....Rob

For a real one and a demo at that , absolutely it is , hundreds of wannabees out there with £10 repros though , a highlight of every set from Mr Barnfather ...

There's a few proper ones out there but can't remember who has them and are DJing with them apart from Sam , but given that it's a demo , in near mint condition and that there were at least two deep-pocketed punters after it I wasn't overly surprised it rocketed , it was sitting at about £5000 at just before six 'o' clock and then took off.

I know of five poets mint copy’s in collections where they never/Dont dj,but that is the case of a lot of records out there! It’s easy to think that it’s just djs that have and play these sounds! Personally I don’t think there are many “actual” rare northern records,but raritie doesn’t always equal value,the word “rare” simply means to me how often it crops up for sale.

I  had never heard that before 

really grows and builds , love it

I see it’s written by Willie Hutch

not really that many copy’s gone though e bay on Popsike either.

I take it that it has never had much DJ action

A great record, and yes another overlooked gem that used to get some plays in the glorious golden days of Northern Soul!

Would probably be an expensive uk 45  if it had been played loads and took off

not many us copy’s  on Popsike either

Classic Motown style Northern that !!

i,ve had 3 copies myself of the poets first copy off martin.

Sandy Wynns went for a relatively low value - good tune too. Gene Chandler went for more than usual despite being a fairly common set-sale record. Poets is still a very rare record and in the rarest of the rare class that commands big money.

Joe Dunlop has one at £75 ex condition,actually looks mint though

Sandy Wynns is an interesting one. JM in his ‘Million Dollars of Rare Soul’ book rates it as rarer than Gene Toones on same label so guess just north of £350 looks like a good price.

Defo seen more gene tones than the sandy wynns,but again it’s a case of quality over quantity,sandy wynns is a decent tune,but gene toones is in another league,however the sandy wynns certainly seems like it should over the 500 quid mark these days?

Personally prefer Sandy because it remains under played whereas Gene makes an appearance at most soul nights.

I love the Sandy Wynns, but it’s very tricky to dance to. In my humble opinion, that’s why it’s never been popular.

Got the nod on the rarity indicator too but Manship considered it a lower quality sound hence the much lower value. Gene Toones always a massive tune when heard out.

Is the ike noble its bad issue quite tough ? I only ever saw demos.  Or I can’t remember seeing many issues.

The last one he auctioned (an issue if I remember) went for around the same 

I don’t think people realise how rare it is on uk ,  or its been forgotten as a dj play 

I wouldn’t sell my copy anyway cause it’s fabulous

There was 5 copies I think initially found.  Butch first, Carl F etc.  Few others have it now.

Any idea how many ish? Like I say I know of 5 copies with people who aren’t djs….obviously rarer than the run of the mill,but not unicorn rare!

You're absolutely right,it is a fabulous record,and a rare one at that.Also quite hard to find on US ABC too...
