Guest Juddy Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The boots we see around Pittsburgh all the time are pretty obvious - yes, they're brown Fee Bee's, but they say "Thee Record Warehouse, McKeesport, PA" at the bottom - the name of the shop that did 'em. (In fact, my boot had "KEEP BEHIND COUNTER!" written on the sleeve - probably because Chuck used to go in that shop!) Went to see Corby sing at a divey local joint the other day, but he doesn't do any of the good ol' stuff. The man sure as hell can sing though... and no, he doesn't even have his own copy of Soul Communicators... juddy soulcialism pittsburgh

IS HE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT HE HAS A AUDIENCE OVER HERE? BAZ A.
Guest Juddy Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 interesting that ,the flip of the soul communicators track is so good also totally different to their northern soul offering and more inline with his mid tempo stuff. IS HE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT HE HAS A AUDIENCE OVER HERE? Absolutely. In fact, he tells a story about walking into the Attic Record Store years ago and having Fred, the owner, point him out to two Northern English cats and says, "Hey - you two know Chuck Corby? Soul Communicators? That's him." And one of them says, "That can't be - Chuck Corby's black!" (Sounds kind of embellished, but hey...) He was actually maybe more surprised that anybody under 50 knows and cares about him here! We're having an all-nighter in May, and hopefully he's coming out ... the guy still plays several gigs every weekend, so it's been hard to get him out to our soul night. Hey - in other Pittsburgh news, Johnny Daye was just in the studio singing on multi-instrumentalist Robert Peckman's (of Skyliners, Mike & Ike/Arctic, others) new album. It's pretty much blues, but just the fact that Daye got dragged into a studio's pretty big news here... j.
