Dobber Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Cavaliers hold to my baby hesitations I’m not built that way these two tunes are very similar, especially the intro,so which came first? Are the two groups or writers connected? lee
Thinksmart Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Cavaliers came first in 66, Hesitations a year later. Joe Hunter is the connection, arranged the Cavaliers and co-wrote the Hesitations. I don't have the sleeve notes to hand from Kent Pied Piper CD releases, but they likely explain in more detail. As that production and writing team span both releases. https://acerecords.co.uk/various-artists-pied-piper Edited 3 hours ago by Thinksmart 1
The Yank Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago It's the other way around with the Hesitations in late '66 ( as the B side to "Soul Superman") and the Cavaliers in early '67 with the two on these surveys at #47 and #49
Thinksmart Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) I was going off Discogs for Cavaliers which shows it as 66, which must be wrong then. My recollection on Hesitations was in relation to the album release rather than b-side which was a year out. I don't have my Dave Rimmer or Keith Rylatt Detroit books anymore to check there. However, the link is the Pied Piper team and Joe Hunter specifically I hope I was right in saying. Presumably he took his arrangement written for Hesitations and adapted it for Cavaliers session then? Others here may know the detail. Edited 2 hours ago by Thinksmart
Chalky Posted 43 minutes ago Posted 43 minutes ago (edited) Hesitations is Nov 66 and this is a comment on 45cat (which I always find more reliable than discogs although there are still errors at times). Quote A"-side entered Billboard R & B chart 14 January 1967; reached #42 (2 weeks) And according to 45cat, Cavaliers is Dec 66 BB Dec 31, 1966 CB Jan 28, 1967 Edited 41 minutes ago by Chalky
