Does anyone know what year J.J Jackson who had the hit “But It’s Alright” died? Somebody told me early 2000’s but I can’t seem to find any info? Thanks!

Just Google it. Took me five Seconds.

You must be talking about the Wikipedia article that isn’t accurate at all.. so nope if it was that easy to find I wouldn’t have made this post!

JJ worked a lot with Sidney Barnes in the mid 60's -- in New York; before JJ came to the UK and Sidney relocated to Detroit & then Chicago.

JJ returned to the US around 1970 but soon 'disappeared' from the music scene.

In the 80's / 90's Sidney tried to reconnect with JJ but was never able to track him down. The guy that worked out of Florida & Brazil around that time (& later) wasn't the Calla guy. Sidney & JJ wrote lots of songs together and so are due the royalties that still acrue. Sidney collects his money, if JJ did then Sidney would have been able to get JJ's current contact details.

As said above, most info on JJ on Wiki, etc is incorrect.

Or   the same j j Jackson who recorded let the show begin on prelude?

Yes The L.A. J.J. Jackson, who sang with The Jackals, and had a Prelude release and sang for San Diego's Musertte Records was June Jackson on Imperial.  The J.J. Jackson who sang "But It's Alright was an East Coaster his whole life.  Apparently, the person who wrote the obituary, tried to get cute, proving how "clever" he was, by adding the bit about J.J. Jackson also having a big hit with "But It's Alright", which he "knew" from his own experience, but thought his research effort somehow missed.

To further muddy the water; when "But It's Alright" was a big hit the LA J J Jackson (June) would perform the song in his live act, so his audiences would think he was actually the guy who recorded it.

I never knew that.  That must be the source of the biographer's error.

perhaps you should consult @Robbk
An institution here and always a reliable source along with welcome information.

I don't know the exact date, or even year, that the "But It's Alright" East Coast ex-songwriting partner of Sidney Barnes, J.J. Jackson died.  I remember the announcement, that seems to have been about 10-12 years ago; but as the years have been flying by at supersonic speed lately, I could be very wrong.
