Reading all the comment about I can understand the frustration regarding having funds tied up due to delays in receiving the items. This is what I know 1st hand from what I have personally witnessed.

Think John should be given a bit of slack from people who have not yet received orders, the weather is atrocious not just a problem for him but the Royal Mail too. As Woodbutcher states probably

  • On a positive note, followed John's video advice yesterday, called Stella, order from early Jan thru Discogs confirmed as complete, advised pulled and ready to ship...shipping advice received today, 5

My interest was in your reply to go sort it out, I have not ordered any record so your willingness to help is appreciated but not needed.

Half an hour ago you were telling people to be patient now you are saying you would go round to his premises, I am sure taking your last piece of advice would be plain stupid.

Absolutely Graham. I'm sure some people are very frustrated but suggesting going round to Johnny's place is just inflammatory nonsense. Encouraging people to check out where his address is sounds intimidating - however frustrated people might be there's no need for that sort of talk.

On a completely different note, I hope all is well Graham my old mate. Happy New Year Sir.

Wise words Peter, and I am sure John is beside himself and doing his upmost to rectify the problems.

I am certain the said post was just a bit of bravado and not taken seriously by anyone.

I am fine thanks and hopefully you are doing well too and a happy new year to you too.

It seems like they are working on orders for the 30th right now based on negative feedbacks on discogs 🤔. I’ve got an order from Dec. 30th and another January 13th I’m still waiting to hear about. BTW - would be nice if people state their order date when updating orders fulfilled/cancelled.

I've got orders from 26th and 27th I haven't heard anything on. Others seem to be getting orders within a few days. There doesn't seem to be much by way of rhyme or reason

I ordered 11 Jan and received yesterday 17 Jan. I must've been one of the lucky ones. Slightly embarrassed to have my records in my hands already given folks that are still waiting. I appreciate it's frustrating, they'll get to it all in time. Astonishing number of orders...

I like to buy off JM if only for the fact you know it's usually in great condition (imo) . the half price sale continues until the end of the month and although I'm not the biggest Motown fan I do collect the uk label . He had loads of 11-1200 45s that when reduced to half price were cheaper  or same price as those on discogs etc so I ordered 28 45s in total not all Motown .I ordered on 31st December and paid via my usual PayPal .. I'm actually still waiting for them to arrive 😵‍💫having seen a couple of posts on FB he's dealing with a lot of orders and asks to bear with him .😉

What i don't get is how can a business let you pay for something that isn't in stock and that could never possibly be in stock again.

Having an immense number of items listed on a website at a particular moment in time is one thing.

Trying to find that actual physical item amongst FOUR MILLION  items scattered over mutiple storage facilities is quite a task , and given that any one of them may have been ordered by multiple potential buyers over the course of the week between the sale starting and the orders starting to be processed then it's easy to see how stuff can be 'out of stock' by the time another order for said 45 is sent for picking.

I doubt that many can actually visualise just what a million actually is , it's a word that's bandied about so often.

If you start counting right now , 1,2,3,4 ... etc , one a second , every second , non-stop , it will take you eleven and a half days to get to that million mark , so forty-six days to get to four million.

You'll all be bleating next that he has no upcoming auctions after next Wednesday.

I see 100,000 listed on his discogs.  How many are posted on the JM site? Is there a way to see the total number listed for sale?  4 million sounds like an awful lot 😵‍💫

From the 'horse's mouth' , in the description on the video recently posted , that you obviously didn't watch.

Surely find the item before listing is the way to have done it.

Think how much money has been sent for none existent records.

Bit like energy companies who have some of our money in their bank as  credit.

That has been my thinking, both the record I bought and received and a subsequent order are both still listed for sale,I know from a previous purchase John does have multiple copies of certain records but i doubt he would on some of the more expensive items which could be where some of the out of stock complaints arise. I looked on Discogs and from what I read the seller has to delete an item sold manually, don't know if I'm 100% correct  on that, perhaps someone on here who sells on there could give us an idea how it works, whether it is simple.

I do think a lot of the flak John has received would have been avoided if he had explained why orders were not dealt with chronologically as is evident from some of the posts on here, I got my order before others who had ordered 7 days before me. The second order from Monday of this week is still being processed, obviously ordered knowing patience would be required which given the money saved I  am happy with.

I want it…..I want it now 🙄

Is really that big an issue you have to wait awhile for your records.  Christmas, New Year, flooding all getting in the way.  I’m sure John in hindsight might have done things differently or not even bothered at all if he knew the slagging he would get from certain quarters but it is what it is.  You will get your records (or a refund if out of stock)in time.

Edited by Chalky

He would only have to delete manually on Discogs if he has sold the record elsewhere.Which he obviously does on his own website or at venues. If you have ordered and payed it is allocated to you and drops off his for sale items.Even if he lists a quantity of 10 in the checkbox of the same listing,it would go down to 9 available copies.

Its all down to keeping everything up to date.

Wonder what John Anderson would have made of all this.

Perhaps theoretically. In reality, he has approx 100k items listed for sale. Presumably these are catalogued so that they can be found quickly, just like any other online business with a large inventory.

One of the most respected dealers and people are not prepared to give him time to deal with an amount of orders he never would have imagined. As Chalky says your records will arrive or a refund given.

Bombarding him with emails and phone calls will not help his endeavours to fulfil the orders either.

I agree.

I think that anyone who ordered items and didn't expect some sort of delay given the enormity of the sale has been a little short-sighted; or in the alternative they don't know Johnny and his enormous set up.

Be patient, kind and trusting.

Perhaps, un-theoretically, you have a better understanding of Johnny's business than the rest of us, and therefore your acid comments are a little more appropriate.

But, in the alternative, I think that probably isn't true and that you are in fact being a little mean and over the top with your comments.

Incidentally just how many records have you ordered?

Lol, calm down. He might have 4 million records in his storage, but if they aren't listed you can't buy them, can you. He has approx 100k titles listed, I imagine quite a few of those in multiple copies. He doesn't have 4 million records listed in his sale.

He isn't selling just via discogs though is he, he has his website as well.  Those listed will be amongst the 4 million in storage so still an effort to find once an order received.

There is a frustration, yes, in having  a lot of money tied up for a prolonged period, when other people on this very thread have received orders placed weeks later, in spite of clear statements that the processing is being done chronologically. That's quire frustrating.

Given some of the things you've said. I wonder have you placed any orders at all?

I have, 30/12 and 4/1, not received any yet but I am patient.

ordered 27th & 10th nothing has arrived - happy to wait 😵‍💫 but if I receive nothing -  I could have bought  other stuff - which I "let go" because I don't have funds left to buy

I don't collect anymore but have bought plenty of records from Johnny over the years. I have never had a bad experience with him and he's always been a gentleman.

That’s my thought a good stock control system means inventory levels and location are managed to a high level of accuracy with just the odd error.

Reading all the comment about I can understand the frustration regarding having funds tied up due to delays in receiving the items. This is what I know 1st hand from what I have personally witnessed.

The impact of the 50% sale far outreached any expectation, with orders coming from the whole of the UK, Europe, Asia and America(s). Orders that would normally be taken in one week, now being taken daily. But not only an increase in orders taken but additionally each order multiplied tenfold due to the massive discount that has been applied. (Let me just give a brief example - 150 orders containing 2 items per week, became 150 orders containing 20 orders per day... This is just an example) A few orders placed have been for up to 200 items.

I spoke to JM and suggested due to the exceptional demand that he closes the sale down, but as he pointed out to me 'being a man of his word' it is not something he is prepared to do. Extra staff have been drafted in by JM to deal with the demand on site. Additionally staff have been recruited by JM that work remotely with boxes of vinyl updating the Discogs inventory. I totally understand the comments regarding business infrastructures dealing with clients/orders and daily operations, but this exceptional reaction has his whole team off guard.

Someone that has operated for over 50 years, building a global client base, paying VAT and Taxes, JM has too much to lose by defaulting on this. There will be orders that will not be fully completed, but replacements or refunds will be made. From my own experience of buying records from various sellers over the years, even placing orders for 3 or 4 items I have been refunded due to unavailability etc.

I know that the whole team, and the additional staff drafted in are working on completing all the orders with the exceptional demand that has been put on them. There is a limit however to how many more people can be drafted in due to the sheer volume of vinyl/styrene on site 4 million is not an exaggeration.

I know that most people that have ordered will be patient, most people have dealt with JM long enough to realise circumstances have been impacted. The offer of 50% is incredible and also brave but you may have to wait a couple of weeks for them and that benefit! I know any business, record dealers/suppliers would have the same problem with these volumes. I would suggest if you cannot wait, it is probably best that you do not place any orders right now.
