Or are you referring to his "Friday Half Price" section ?

I did see something on instagram about a half price sale for all of January.  On all items apart from auction items.

might be some decent prices at that ?

Its genuine I've bought a few although they haven't arrived yet.

`I wouldn't necessarily call them bargains but 1/2 price takes them to a reasonable level for me which tells you what my valuations are compared to his

I also bought three on 28th December and as of this morning the order is unprocessed, presumably John and staff have had a long break. Probably get dealt with Monday onwards.

Is it a true thing if so when does it end?

Well I bought a few bits because I thought that with 50% off I could get some reasonably priced tunes. Bearing in mind they are nearly all mint so all good.I haven’t bought off of John for years because his prices are so off.On Discogs often there are other copies from the UK cheaper and he is always a lot higher.

The one I’m most happy with is a mint Louis Curry on Reel. I’ve paid £225. Only 8 sold on Discogs since 2017 and 6 were for £350 or more.

So you paid the full price and got the refund when?

Refund in the week because bought off Discogs. Manny will refund as order processed.Think there was a code which automatically refunded on his website.

I did go to the website but not everything on Discogs was available on his site.

Website purchases get 50% off. When  you add the halfprice code at checkout it recalculates total and that’s what you pay.

just got the Marvellos It’s your love that I need for £20 which was listed at £40. Not earth shattering, but got me that record which I wouldn’t have paid 40 for, so all good in my opinion

That's a proper bargain IMO.

I'm looking through and have found around 15 45s so far and I think they're all very reasonable prices.

It's just finding the money to buy them.

Forgetting the "celebration of 55 years selling" tag has anyone who knows John asked him if there is any other reason behind the sale. I know nothing about his business, does he employ a few people etc. Could he be scaling down his operation to maybe concentrate on higher end tunes and his auction with a view to a quieter life as like a lot of us none are getting younger anytime soon.

I just find it interesting that someone as most would agree whose prices are generally higher than most would suddenly take a £150 hit on a record I looked at where his was the only one on Discogs (yes I am aware it could be for sale anywhere either on the net or in someones box for less) but the fact remains on the Discogs one how ever much he was if he was overpriced that's still a chunk of money to lose.

I realise whatever he makes he is still likely to turn a profit on what he initially paid for the records and that in the scheme of things the sale may only put a small dent in the 100,000 he has for sale. I'm not in any way suggesting there is some deep dark secret that only he knows. Could it be he sees a slowing down of sales in a particular price range, has he looked on the shelves and seen records that have hung around for years and decided upon a way of clearing stuff out rather than the usual picking tunes to put in a sale.

He always comes across as a nice guy when I've watched his youtube videos and heard him on podcasts so fair play to him for the sale, could well be there is nothing behind it other than what he says a celebration of 55 yrs selling.

Anyone have any thoughts on it

He did a similar sale a number of years ago……but I can’t remember exactly when……could have been 15, 20 or 25 years ago, as I remember buying a decent size bundle of records and feeling quite pleased with how much I’d saved.

So, he has definitely done it before.

I was looking through his site some time ago and came to the opinion that with time ticking away, he would never get round to selling a large % of them (especially at those prices)

I also understand he has a large number of unprocessed records yet to be listed?

So who knows

I bought two LPs off discogs, I get the refund when they process the order, I also bought a 45 off his website, discount applied straight away with the code HALFPRICE.  There are plenty of bargains on his site and discogs.

I'm hoping the volume of sales coupled with John's post copied above is the reason I haven't as yet had any notification on the progress of my order. The record is still down as available on both the website and Discogs hence fingers crossed no one got in before me. Taking into account first orders went out Monday and the timing of my order I'm not expecting to hear anything for another couple of days.

I don't do Facebook so if anyone sees a post from John giving updates on the situation it would be much appreciated if they could pass it on.

I would think carefully before ordering off the Discogs site. I ordered 3 on the 27th December, quite early and two of them are not available.

Yes had the same problem several times over the last couple of years so I don’t bother ordering from his Discogs listings as many of them have been sold but not deleted from his inventory. If you see something on there it’s always best to check on his website and search to see if it’s still available as his website is far more up to date.

I placed an order yesterday for a few more items and received notification at lunchtime today saying items shipped. I did read somewhere that orders were being processed chronologically which seems strange if you placed your order before me.

I ordered mine on Saturday from his Discogs site, maybe he's processing orders direct from his site first

I placed an order for 1 item direct via John's website on the 26th December. Not received yet and "being processed".

I'm not concerned or worried bearing in mind the likely number of orders and recent weather conditions.

I bought a few records in a previous 1/2 price sale. I think it was to mark his 1,000th sales list!

John has a colossal stock with records arriving virtually every day so it makes sense to move items that have been on the shelves for a while.

The sale has been very popular and he has indicated that the huge volume of orders will be processed in chronological order.

Ultimately though, and all collectors should appreciate this fine point, a record initially purchased at a low cost in the past can be sold at a higher value at some point in the future. This can still be profitable taking into account inflation.

Many records nowadays are overpriced by sellers on the basis of Price Guide figures, eBay sales, Manship auctions, rumoured going rates etc. You only have to look at Soul Source records for sale to see evidence of this, and the inevitable discounts that follow confirm this.

Overpriced records generally don’t sell. High prices may be artificially inflated and are best ignored. Records for sale really should be priced at a figure that tempts potential buyers, yet still profits the seller on a modest level. John’s sale offers records at a fair price judging from the large number of orders.

I ordered on 27th and 31st from Discogs.Mainly because not everything was on his website.Still showing payment received.

If what I have been reading on here turns out to be true and I don’t get a complete order I won’t be best pleased.I get that he is overwhelmed so will just wait and see.
