Soulagogo Posted Friday at 19:31 Posted Friday at 19:31 JM is quoting half price sale on all listed records , what’s your thoughts? Are they overpriced to start or am I being cynical
Woodbutcher Posted Friday at 20:21 Posted Friday at 20:21 Link ... ? Or are you referring to his "Friday Half Price" section ?

I did see something on instagram about a half price sale for all of January. On all items apart from auction items. might be some decent prices at that ? 1

Jnixon Posted yesterday at 05:30 Posted yesterday at 05:30 There would be loads of bargains but I took it as a hoax. was it a true thing? Is it a true thing if so when does it end?
Benji Posted yesterday at 05:32 Posted yesterday at 05:32 It is true. At least on Discogs. Just checked. He has a couple of things from my wants list. But even with 50%off they are hardly bargains. 1
Twoshoes Posted yesterday at 09:01 Posted yesterday at 09:01 My thoughts, I have like most I guess a wants list on Discogs, some I genuinely want others are tunes I've liked on first hearing and may at some point wish to buy. John has for sale 125 off that list. Running through said list it was hit or miss on whether he came out cheaper at half price. I didn't go through the whole list but dependent on your definition of a bargain there most certainly are some to be had if you take the prices quoted on Discogs as being correct which we all know can sometimes be taken with a pinch of salt. I filtered in records over £40 and although he was generally the most expensive in nearly all cases you still ended up paying less with the offer plus the records were in most cases a grade higher On one particular record he was already half the price of another very well known dealer so with his half price offer you could get for £25 a record that the other dealer was selling for £100. I did buy a record I have been waiting for at the right price, with the offer it came out at £25 cheaper than the cheapest one I've seen which was actually posted on here a couple of months ago, whether saving £25 can be considered a bargain is for the buyer to judge,I was happy and that's all that matters. Not naming the record as I'm pretty certain someone will say "you could have had mine for x number of pounds" which is ok after the fact but as I know the one on here is the only one I've seen for sale in this country for six months. 3
Steve L Posted yesterday at 09:10 Posted yesterday at 09:10 Its genuine I've bought a few although they haven't arrived yet. `I wouldn't necessarily call them bargains but 1/2 price takes them to a reasonable level for me which tells you what my valuations are compared to his 3

Probably get dealt with Monday onwards.
Kenb Posted yesterday at 12:23 Posted yesterday at 12:23 He sometimes gets a lot of stick, but fair play on this

Tricky Posted yesterday at 15:42 Posted yesterday at 15:42 Well I bought a few bits because I thought that with 50% off I could get some reasonably priced tunes. Bearing in mind they are nearly all mint so all good.I haven’t bought off of John for years because his prices are so off.On Discogs often there are other copies from the UK cheaper and he is always a lot higher. The one I’m most happy with is a mint Louis Curry on Reel. I’ve paid £225. Only 8 sold on Discogs since 2017 and 6 were for £350 or more. 1

Tricky Posted yesterday at 18:46 Posted yesterday at 18:46 Refund in the week because bought off Discogs. Manny will refund as order processed.Think there was a code which automatically refunded on his website. I did go to the website but not everything on Discogs was available on his site.
Mark W Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Website purchases get 50% off. When you add the halfprice code at checkout it recalculates total and that’s what you pay. just got the Marvellos It’s your love that I need for £20 which was listed at £40. Not earth shattering, but got me that record which I wouldn’t have paid 40 for, so all good in my opinion

I'm looking through and have found around 15 45s so far and I think they're all very reasonable prices. It's just finding the money to buy them. 2
Twoshoes Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Forgetting the "celebration of 55 years selling" tag has anyone who knows John asked him if there is any other reason behind the sale. I know nothing about his business, does he employ a few people etc. Could he be scaling down his operation to maybe concentrate on higher end tunes and his auction with a view to a quieter life as like a lot of us none are getting younger anytime soon. I just find it interesting that someone as most would agree whose prices are generally higher than most would suddenly take a £150 hit on a record I looked at where his was the only one on Discogs (yes I am aware it could be for sale anywhere either on the net or in someones box for less) but the fact remains on the Discogs one how ever much he was if he was overpriced that's still a chunk of money to lose. I realise whatever he makes he is still likely to turn a profit on what he initially paid for the records and that in the scheme of things the sale may only put a small dent in the 100,000 he has for sale. I'm not in any way suggesting there is some deep dark secret that only he knows. Could it be he sees a slowing down of sales in a particular price range, has he looked on the shelves and seen records that have hung around for years and decided upon a way of clearing stuff out rather than the usual picking tunes to put in a sale. He always comes across as a nice guy when I've watched his youtube videos and heard him on podcasts so fair play to him for the sale, could well be there is nothing behind it other than what he says a celebration of 55 yrs selling. Anyone have any thoughts on it 1
Soul Shrews Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I thought he did this sale every year ? For his website anyway, don'"t know about his Disccogs Cheers Paul
Mot Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago He did a similar sale a number of years ago……but I can’t remember exactly when……could have been 15, 20 or 25 years ago, as I remember buying a decent size bundle of records and feeling quite pleased with how much I’d saved. So, he has definitely done it before. 1
Soul Shrews Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Ah right, a friend of mine bought something some years ago. I presumed it was a yearly thing for JM to do. Cheers Paul

I was looking through his site some time ago and came to the opinion that with time ticking away, he would never get round to selling a large % of them (especially at those prices) I also understand he has a large number of unprocessed records yet to be listed? So who knows 1
Chalky Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I bought two LPs off discogs, I get the refund when they process the order, I also bought a 45 off his website, discount applied straight away with the code HALFPRICE. There are plenty of bargains on his site and discogs. 1
