Dobber Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 So the 45 on veejay 668 (which is his last 45 on the label)with songs empty balcony/where did you go last night, actually plays a song “I can’t get away from your love (below) on the “night” side question is…is it the correct song but with the wrong title? Or wrong song and correct title? And also is this the case on all the said 45s ? Both issues and demos? 1
Chalky Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I this the one that is unissued according to the CD?

Chalky Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) according to the comments on 45Cat you are right, The Night side does play the previously thought to be unissued track. https://www.45cat.com/record/vj668 Edited December 5, 2024 by Chalky 1
Solution Alan T Posted December 5, 2024 Solution Posted December 5, 2024 These were copyrighted like this, three months apart. Empty Balcony / Where Did You Go Last Night (Barrett Strong, Wade Flemons) (Both Copyrighted 12 Nov 1964) What's A Guy Supposed To Do / I Can't Get Away From Your Love (Barrett Strong, Wade Flemons, Chuck Barksdale) (Both Copyrighted 11 Feb 1965) That's how they probably should of came out but the demo mispress of Empty Balcony / Where Did You Go Last Night actually play Where Did You Go Last Night / I Can't Get Away From Your Love. As i've mentioned on here before i don't think the issue that is on 45cat actually exists. It looks like a low res photoshop job with cut lines. I've chased this record for over 20 years and have never seen anything other than a hand full of demos. It was first known and played on the scene when it came out on "A Taste Of Soul Volume One" CD in 1993 which states it was unissued. 2
Thinksmart Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 It is also on the Outta Sight The Northern Soul of VJ CD if anyone wants to hear or obtain it that way.

I agree i also think the picture of the stock copy is fabricated, the promo that sold on J.Manships auction recentley went very cheap. However i have always thought it a bit lacklustre with regards to the sax break,to me it is one of the worst i have ever heard and personaly i think Joe Murphy has got more about it.

I've got Joe Murphy and Little Milton's "So Blue(without you)"records. But they don't sound like the Wade Flemons track to me. I thought maybe you knew of a Joe Murphy version of "I Can't Get Away From Your Love". Edited December 6, 2024 by Solidsoul
Robbk Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 I've never seen a store stocker of "I Can't Get Away From Your Love". I think it was only pressed on a DJ issue, if I remember correctly. I know I have it in some form from 1965, because it's on one of my mid '60s cassette tapes that I made off my records.
