Popular Post Roburt Posted Wednesday at 18:53 Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 18:53 Back in 2008, "This Magnificent Moment", a documentary about the Magnificent Men was in production. A trailer had been released to publicise the project in 2006 (see below) and further work was ongoing through 2007/08. A show the reformed group undertook in November 2007 was filmed, this footage to go into the proposed documentary. Anyone know if the project was ever finished & the film released in any form ? 4
Woodbutcher Posted Wednesday at 19:06 Posted Wednesday at 19:06 Last mention I see of it is Jan 2008 when it was reported as progressing as and when funds were available. https://yorkblog.com/yorktownsquare/post-157/
Roburt Posted Wednesday at 19:34 Author Posted Wednesday at 19:34 Yes, I saw that. I guess the money ran out & the project withered on the vine. VERY SAD. They deserved to have their story told. 1
Robbk Posted yesterday at 08:11 Posted yesterday at 08:11 I agree. If that project was completed, and released commercially, we'd have heard about it just from the hundreds of forum-active posters on this forum and Soulful Detroit, alone, at least one of them would have brought that to our attention, not to mention a '60s Soul fan on X, or Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, or even Tick Tock, would have brought it up. It's a shame that it didn't come to fruition. The trailer looked very professional, and made it appear that it would be an outstanding film, well worth watching.
Chalky Posted yesterday at 10:09 Posted yesterday at 10:09 I’ve asked David Bupp what is happening with the documentary. 2
Windlesoul Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) I remember trying to look into this a number of years ago while tinkering with the idea of approaching Dave Bupp / Bob Angelucci to write the group's biography with them. I didn't get very far with either TBH, but I think there were a couple of reasons for the documentary not going ahead. Maybe financial / legal but possibly also group relationships. There was the latter-day live performance video put together by Mike Leash that was supposed to be included in the documentary. When I asked Mike about the documentary all he knew was that it fizzled out. Real shame, as without a doubt there's such a great tale to be told there, one way or another.
