A little clutch pulled from the sales box. Nothing expensive about them, but boy these sort of tunes are the cornerstone of the scene. Avoid missing a treat, take the time to YouTube what you don’t know!

Happy to send additional images or sound files where needed. PM any questions or to reserve.

Drifters – Baby what I mean – Atlantic 2366 M- £15

(My first encounter of this stormer was on a video of a Leicester all-nighter. Discovering tunes for yourself came in many forms. Fantastic outing from one of the best crossing genre groups ever)

Elliott Small – Stay in my heart – Bang 570 M- £25

(Great little dancer, on what appears to be the national release following ‘Grandpa Elliotts’ local release on NOLAs New Sound Label. Heavily influenced by the ‘Big Q’ Wardell Quezergue)

Lou Rawls – Dead end street – Capitol 5869 M- £20

(Wow, fantastic spoken intro, captures the imagination, building you up for the main show, brilliant gritty soul. LA pressing)

Lou Rawls – Show business / When love goes wrong – Capitol 5942 Promo M- £25

Parfays – You got a good thing goin’ boy – Fontana 1526 Ex+ £30

Knights & Arthur – Lovin’ you baby – Landa 2 Ex £25

Nat Wright – Mr. Love – Mercury 72980 WD M- £20

Formations – Lonely voice of love – MGM 13963 M- £60

(Now they’ve got to the ‘Top pf the stairs’ and looking back down over the balcony, they deliver an atmospheric expression of sorrowful Soul. Ignoring the melodramatic harp intro, the lead vocalist Jerry Adkins excels on a strong beat. Household names Gamble and Huff, and Johnny Madara credited on this beauty. Lovely MGM gold and blue stock copy, not common at all for this release, never sold on DISCOGs)

Mitch Ryder – You get your kicks – New Voice 830 M- £20

(Every car journey I make this is my pull away play, monster intro and foot to the floor pounder)

IMG_E8085.thumb.JPG.9bdc56b48824b489af9644c964bff100.JPG

Third Guitar – Sad girl – Rojac 120 Ex+ £50

(There’s harmonies, and then there’s harmonies. Reminds me of the sort of a cappella you might have heard on a chain gang, awesome tune and I bet well under the radar. Flip to the up-tempo and funky edged ‘Lovin’ lies’, both tracks are poles apart in style, a reflection of the group’s talents. Sad girl form though. Exceptional label design)

El Shobey & Company – Never missed what you got / Whole thing – Shout 251 Ex £50

(Appears to be a one release artist, delivering a crossover double header. Fetches much more on DISCOGs for stock and demo copies Minor edge lift, does not affect play).
