Mike Posted October 25 Posted October 25 That time of the year again The night where there may be a chance of a 1 hour spot going at events run by not so aware promoters So look out for people anxiously glancing at their watches with a 50 box half hidden under the table, ready to save the day Clocks go back Sunday 2am https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/when-do-clocks-go-back On the last Sunday of October in the UK, the clocks go back by one hour. It may feel like a long time since the blue skies of summer, but the moment when the clocks go back marks the end of British Summer Time (BST). Good news: it also means an extra hour in bed. An easy way to remember which way the clocks change is to think of the seasons: in spring the clocks ‘spring forward', while in autumn they 'fall back'. The clocks will go back in the UK on 27 October 2024 at 2am.
Simon T Posted October 25 Posted October 25 changing your clocks is a good reminder to check your smoke alarms. Fire officials recommend changing smoke alarm batteries twice a year, around the time of the spring and fall clock changes. Here are some tips for checking your smoke alarms: Test them Use the test button on each smoke alarm to make sure it's working. You should hear a beep or chirp. Change the batteries If your smoke alarms use standard batteries, change them at least once a year. Some smoke alarms have long-life batteries that don't need to be replaced. Install smoke alarms Make sure you have a smoke alarm on every level of your home, including the basement, and outside each sleeping area. Clean them Use the soft brush attachment of a vacuum to gently remove dust from the sensors. Replace them After 10 years, it's best to replace the entire smoke alarm. Working smoke alarms can reduce the chances of dying in a fire by almost 50%.
