Seanlovessoul
Hi all, really appreciate help finding artist and song whose 1st line reads “going to a castle in the sky, you and I.” I’ve just come across it again after many years being posted by the Bristol NS guys and girls on utube. They don’t unfortunately post a track list. Any help would be gratefully welcomed and end my misery if not the search for this little belter! Thanks for listening x Link to comment Social source share
Kenb
Could it be… The Johnson Brothers, “All of my life ( I dreamed of a castle)” Link to comment Social source share

Thinksmart
The Castle In The Sky theme reminds me of the song of that title by Gerri Grainger - but I don't think it has that specific lyric. Can you share the link and point in the video? 1 Link to comment Social source share

Woodbutcher
The obvious thing that comes to mind is Dean Courtney , lyrics not 100% but very close. Link to comment Social source share

Thinksmart
Well it's 1968 era Sunshine white pop with a psych-middle. Close to David & The Giants or Spiral Starecase with the urgency of Steve Karmen Big Band's 'Breakaway' or Human Beinz later on. I don't know it and it's not for me these days. I'd of enjoyed it a lot at their age in the video I bet. There have been a fair few 'Sunshine Pop' compilations in recent years of this type of music, so may be findable via them if not already known. John Hart
Hi Think Smart, Absolutely,, ,screams out ,"Happy, Skippy ,jumpy, floaty sunshine pop" of the Late sixties US eg, Keith, .Robert John , Grass roots , Buckinghams and a steal from Paul Ankas "when we get there "? Personally, I love it, in small doses, ,and the video dancers epitomise the clean cut image too match the music ( not a clue of identity , no importante !) Candiman
Lyrics bear some similarity to Simon Dupree and the Big Sound "Castle In The Sky" 1968, also recorded by Blonde On Blonde as "Castles In The Sky" in 1970. But it's neither of those. As the lyrics are so close in places I'm betting it's not called "Castle In The Sky". Link to comment Social source share
Thinksmart
Of course it could be an AI thing..... you can now literally put in a few parameters and it will generate a song. Edited October 23 by Thinksmart Link to comment Social source share

I did say that to Kraftl on another thread on here. The one that sounded like Greater Experience. Could have been AI. Sounded too polished and like a lot of other things and with the knowledge of the people on here somebody would know it. Andy Link to comment Social source share

Seanlovessoul
Hi to all respondents to my initial request. Thought it was a simple ask given the wealth of knowledge that obviously exists on SS. As a crusty old 60 something, I’ve been amazed to hear AI could have generated this track. The depth of my tech knowledge for someone so young is not vast but if it is generated by AI could this mean new tracks being created in the mould of the great soul tracks of yesteryear? I wonder if this a good or bad thing. Going to bed now to contemplate. Thanks again to all that have tried to help! Night night. Link to comment Social source share
Solution Popular Post Sebastian Posted October 29 Solution Popular Post Share Posted October 29 (edited) It's not AI. It's "Castle In The Sky" by Sign Of Leo: It was copyrighted on 5 October 1970: Exists as a white label 7" promo/test pressing: https://www.discogs.com/artist/6841520-Sign-Of-Leo And is also available on a compilation LP from 1971 called "Al Robert's Revue" that showcases the songwriting talents of Ron Hackling and the acts that appeared on this obscure New Jersey "revue": https://www.discogs.com/release/15643323-Various-Al-Roberts-Revue More info: https://www.strangedigs.com/the-al-roberts-revue Ron Hackling co-wrote The Mark V's harmony garage-pop nugget "I Want To Say" on the Blast label: Hackling seems to have been involved with The Duprees (a.k.a Italian Asphalt & Pavement Co / I.A.P. Co.) in some way as well, turning up as producer and co-writer together with Tommy Petillo on a few late tracks. There's quite a bit of latter day footage of Ron Hackling performing on YouTube. That 7" is no 'test pressing' though , it's without doubt a carver that someone's had cut to play out as a c/u , for some inexplicable barrel-scraping reason. No, you're wrong. I've got it. It's a vinyl pressing from 1970 or 1971. It was supplied six years ago to Discogs by a user based in Penns Grove, New Jersey which fits in. Seems a little strange that they'd go to the effort of test pressings if no release appeared though , that said the album does look very much like a private/vanity job judging by the 'artwork' so maybe they thought about releasing a single then thought better of it and never pulled the trigger on a full pressing run. Sebastian Posted Wednesday at 09:47 Share Posted Wednesday at 09:47 (edited) That Sign Of Leo track is a fantastic sunshine pop tune, really top-of-the-heap kind of stuff as far as that "genre" goes. Well composed, superbly produced and with a very unorthodox/creative psych break that works etc. I'd personally never think of playing this track in a soul context, but considering that the DJs in the video also spin pure pop like Marion Sodd and Fragile Lime, then I'm not surprised that the Sign Of Leo track is included in their set. The second cover-up is Teak Wood "See My Girl" on ARC by the way. Also pure pop. Edited Wednesday at 09:49 by Sebastian 2 Link to comment Social source share
