Heard Sam play it at Culcheth a couple of months ago. He didn't play it a the Skegness Weekender 'cause I played mine first!

I heard a record on Sunday and I thought what's this rubbish? Some people danced to it so obviously they didn't think the same as me. If we all liked the same music what a boring scene it would be. I rest my case

I was at Broughton Wings the night Sam first played it, he was super excited to see the dancefloor reaction to it.

it fell flat, however he persevered with it and made it the Soul Sam anthem that it is now.

I was at Culcheth as well when he played it to another appreciative crowd.

I can't be certain but he may well have played it at Skegness but someone else played his first.

it might have looked the vg grade but it sounded fair or g   grade at best... it would probably have to make a trip to the legend that is Yann Vatiste for a really good clean up before being inflicted upon the public

We were both at The Manor niter in 2001 when Sam had just got the tune, and played it there...he didn't cover it up either...possibly because the chances of another turning up immediately was remote, that theory was debunked pretty soon that year...that was highly likely the first time he'd spun it out, heard it again at Manc Ritz bank holiday all nighter not long after, same response: floor packer.

my own question was on seeing the advertised asking price of 10k for a vg copy that sounded awful ,how much would a clean ex or mint- copy be worth.....great tune though.

It's good and great for the Northern Soul dancefloor.

I've always thought there's a similarity in the backing track that reminds me of the Magictones  "It's Better To Love".

and the majority are DJ`s of course  so you tend to hear the same oldies or current plays... theres a few guys out there thats got deeper pockets so they can throw money at something rarely heard as not many have but the majority are regular folk on a limited budget but theres still enough records to go around thats affordable but not hundreds but more like thousands getting ignored and on the strength of that becoming tougher to sell because of the fear of not getting money back

The intro less the trumpet is very nearly the same indeed,in fact if it was a tad faster it would be the same! Well spotted mate,also youve just turned the magic tones from a ten quid record to Christ knows how much

That's a good point Dave. My last lot of records were simply to play at my event. I couldn't really afford them, and as soon as the event was over, I sold them as soon as possible.

I'm the only person that I've ever met, that admits they love Dj'ing. How often have you heard the old, "I'm not bothered about Dj'ing, I'm more of a collector, but people keep asking me." Yeah right, then they travel 200 miles to play in a little room to six people.

ye i find DJing in the main a chore these days.. was always a bit of a chore if im honest but enjoy when i`m actually up there but was more of a bit of a collector that just wanted to play what i wanted to play

I'm no longer bothered about Djing but I used to love it, still do when I occasionally Dj.  Great buzz seeing a full dance floor to your records.  They aren't Djs today just sheep all playing the same stuff, total lack of imagination for much of the scene.  I tend to stick to the same few venues where imagination is still welcomed.

You can pick it apart bit by bit but; this is one of those records that typifies the old school "northern soul" monster. A proper record for dancers too.

Wasn't it a case of singing over the ready made backing track , perhaps not the same feeling to the vocalist , as singing with a live band ? Still a good result though to these ears .
