Pete S Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Just made one mistake, put the wrong side of Bankrobber on, apart from that, not too bad...could do a better one using cd's but didn't have time https://raresoul.mypodcast.com/index.html Here's some of my favourite tracks from one of the geratest periods for British music - the post punk years. Before it all went pear shaped around 1983 there were literally hundreds of classic 45's released here. sadly I only have a handful left so I've done what I think is a varied cross section, from punk and new wave to pop and rather than just put tons of obscure tracks up, a few of these even charted. THOSE NAUGHTY LUMPS - IGGY POP'S JACKET THE FALL - FIERY JACK THE MO-DETTES - PAINT IT BLACK MADNESS - MISTAKES THEATRE OF HATE - LEGION PUBLIC IMAGE LTD - PUBLIC IMAGE RICH KIDS - GHOSTS OF PRINCES IN TOWERS THE STRANGLERS - FIVE MINUTES FATAL MICROBES - VIOLENCE GROWS SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES - THE STAIRCASE (MYSTERY) WAH! HEAT - BETTER SCREAM ORANGE JUICE - SIMPLY THRILLED HONEY THE RUTS - IN A RUT THE HUMAN LEAGUE - MARIANNE THE PASSAGE - DEVILS AND ANGELS THE WILD SWANS - REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT MIKEY DREAD / THE CLASH - ROCKERS GALORE SNIFF & THE TEARS - DRIVERS SEAT TOM TOM CLUB - GENIUS OF LOVE COATI MUNDI - ME NO POP I KLEENEX - HEDI'S HEAD THE REVILLOS - WHERE'S THE BOY FOR ME TRACY THORN - PLAIN SAILING
Pete S Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 Si, I haven't played most of these for ages, I loved Kleenex - hedi's head, cos I finally figured out what she's singing..."Hedi's head is sourkraut". Also that Wild Swans record is the most underrated masterpiece of the 80's. Thought you'd like this particular broadcast
Guest HensTeeth Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 "Driver's Seat" by Sniff & The Tears - what a track! Apparently it was big at Studio 54 in the late 70s. Not surprising as there is quite a bit of a soul influence in there, to my ear anyway! Dare I suggest that it wouldn't sound out of place at a Northern night? Ok, that's maybe pushing it a bit I guess - yes? Anyway, love all that post-punk stuff. In general terms, the years 1976-1985 spawned some of the greatest "popular" music of all-time. Personally I went through all the phases - new wave/punk, mod, ska, new romantic!! before settling on Northern Soul as my out and out favourite "genre". Anyway, downloading the podcast now...
Guest Kevin J Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 a lot of that 70s-80s nyc stuff was really funky ... Lizzy Mercier Descloux's "Fire" comes to mind. sorry no clips here.

When Fatboy Slim last played Glastonbury he'd sampled Drivers Seat, or remixed it, sounded great
