Yvonne & Violets – Cross my heart – Barry 1004 DJ Ex £225

(Popular girl group dance on this great Chicago label. Couple of light marks that don’t affect play. Has some feint letters on top label, and feint ink imprint on the flip having been laid on a newly printed label) 

Startones – Lovin’ you baby - Billie Fran 001 Ex £700

(My favourite source for Soul, Texas, offering yet another soul charger, which remains hard to turn up, especially in decent condition. One of many labels, and a very iconic design, owned by the magnate ‘Major Bill Smith’. Don’t think I’ve seen another release from them, so like may remain a bit of a mystery. Edge lift does not affect play)

Charles Diamond – No one can take your place – Breakthrough 81582 Ex £200

(Alternative take that gives the "Inspirations" a run for their money. Some light marks on run in but no effect on play)

Don Ray – Born a loser – RCA 9438 Promo Ex £225

(Stereo-typical Northern styled dancer from the vast RCA catalogue, always a favourite. Flip label has wear)

Rose Battiste – Hit and run / I miss my baby – Revilot 204 WD Ex+ £525

(Detroit double header of epic proportions, can’t split these 2 sides, both equally good. A very tiny date in biro on ‘miss’ label. Plays and looks better than Ex+, just being conservative)

Variations – I wanna take you uptown – Right On 1001 Ex £200

(Edgy group soul dancer. Labels show some ageing)

Ronnie & Robyn - As long as you love me – Sidra 9011 DJ M- £350

(Dale Warren penned and produced monster, that understated intro which burst into full blown action, filling floors to this day. Gorgeous promo copy with ‘Step into my heart’ on the flip. Edge lift that causes a bobble on the tone arm, but plays through without a problem, becoming less pronounced as it works its way to end)

Debonairs – Please come back baby – Soul Click 8097 Ex+ £850

(Texas banger, raw vocals and unpolished arrangement, but that’s what makes some obscure 45s sought after. The flip will appeal to sweet soul lovers. Edge lift that causes a bobble on the tone arm, but plays through without a problem)

Magicians – Is it all gone – Villa 704 M- £175

(Superb west coast soul group, one of several out of the brilliant ‘Villa’ stable. Very accomplished lead vocal, supported expertly by the harmonies backing. It will never escape the shadow of ‘Love, lets try again’ but none the less, a cracking west coast dancer. Lovely copy, condition, condition, condition)
