Diggin' Dave
DIGGIN' DAVE 45s LIST - September 2024 Full list with sound and scans can be viewed here: https://mailchi.mp/21a2c71ed032/1nc6s8682q-18092019?e=1c7808c7fa The Autographs – Love's gonna do you in / On a hot summer day in the big city – Joker 714 Super in-demand LA dagger. Strictly graded, no deep marks that can be felt. Visual grade: VG- €1200 Edith Moreno – You better get ready for the judgement day / Standing on the solid rock – Savoy 4394 Modern gospel banger that was not even known to exist until a test press showed up back in 2017. A couple of lesser condition copies have surfaced since then but to find one as clean as this is near impossible. Visual grade: M- €650 Nathaniel Black – Freak all night / Keep on steppin' – NDR 0002256 Ultra rare Carolina boogie funk slapper with one of the coolest flute solos in the genre. Flip bangs as well! Visual grade: EX €600 Just Us – Stop pretending / I'm not jealous – Silver City Obscure modern New York lowrider soul. Beautiful copy. Visual grade: M- €300 The Seventh Sense – I need your love / Theme from seventh sense – Shaw 1 Enigmatic Connecticut sweet soul with a blistering jazz-funk flip. Visual grade: EX €250 Arthur Noiel – It'll make you holler / She don't love me – Brownfield 1034 Two remarkable vocal performances and unfortunately the only recordings by this unknown Texas singer. Top side is a Northern dancer that's starting to gain traction amongst the more knowledgeable DJs, flip is and old school ballad of which I've recorded a longer clip because the way Arthur moves through the registers during the bridge are too good to ignore. Visual grade: VG €250 Christopher Cerf – Sweet music / The boat of Noah – Amy 954 DJ Copy Big room Northern spin in excellent nick. Visual grade: EX €225 Wisdom – Wisdom's prayer / I know the lord will fix it – Wisdom GR-200 Amazing spiritual modern gospel that's currently still unknown beyond the true cognoscenti. Kudos to these guys for managing to slap a 6:43 tune onto one side of a 7" without losing too much dynamics. Visual grade: M- €175 Judson Moore – Everybody push and pull / Coincidence – Capri 1008 Rather great mid-tempo Chiacago crossover dancer. Visual grade: Strong VG+ €150 Paul Ortiz – There’s no feeling / Gozar mi son – Mango Deep Chicano roller with massive potential and a nice salsa flip as an added bonus. Visual grade: M-, storage warp NAP €150 The Escorts – S.O.S. (Heart in distress) / I love you but you don't know me – Date 2-1609 DJ Copy Mid-paced Virginia garage soul dancer. Visual grade: VG+ to EX €125 Cherri Permelia – Smile on your brother / Live – Guevara 734 Enigmatic outsider folk jam. Couple scattered superficial marks but plays well. Visual grade: Strong VG+ €125 The Union Gospel Singers – Leave your burden there / When the Lord gets ready – Designer SW72-6325 Rare as hen’s teeth Style Wooten gospel double-sider. The up-tempo side could ignite the dance floor in the hands of the right DJ (aka not me). But the real gem is the deep bluesy flip for me. Visual grade: M-, minor dish warp €100 Tommy Youngblood – Now you're on your own / Why did you leave me – Rayco 518 Elusive Los Angeles R&B with appeal on the popcorn scene when appropriately pitched down. Visual grade: VG €80 Penny Carter – He can't hurt me no more / Why did I lose you – Verve 10405 Sixties beat ballad that's usually beat up when found in the wild. This one ain't. Visual grade: EX €75 Lee Williams and The Cymbals – I love you more / I'll be gone – Carnival 521 Ballad double-sider that's tough to find in good nick. Visual grade: VG+ €75 The Eldees – Don’t be afraid to love / You broke my happy heart – Dynamics 1013 Unique energy on this early Detroit soul 45 by talented writer Beverly Dewitt Yancey, father of J Dilla. He also co-wrote It’s A Shame but never got credited, a specialty of the house over at Motown. Visual grade: M- €70 Spankk – Keep on (Bouncing) / On the road – Bullet 254 South African disco funk 45 from 1982. Superficial marks but plays clean. Visual grade: VG €60 The Chaumonts – Loving soft soul / Instrumental – Bay Sound 67008 Cute follow-up single from the Baltimor group that takes the tempo and intensity down a notch after the more well-known “Love is the thing”. Visual grade: Strong VG €60 Jorge Darden – Alone again / Please don’t stop the music – Ladonia 1290 Moody downtempo folk funk with a jazzy edge. Beautiful tune. Visual grade: M- €40 Eddie Parker – Crying clown / I need a true love – Triple B 0001 Deep mid-tempo Detroit from a period when the Chandler-Ashford connection turned everything they touched into gold. Visual grade: M- €40 Joe Fossett – I remember / Happy birthday mama – Jar-Val 7801 Esoteric oddball modern ballad that has sold for serious loot in the past. Visual grade: VG €40 The Manhattans – All I need is your love / Our love will never die – Carnival 526 Driving northern dancer with ballad flip. Visual grade: EX, minor warp NAP €35 The Vanguards – Girl go away / Man without knowledge – Lamp 81 DJ Copy Cool ballad from Indiana's finest. Unplayed copy. Visual grade: M-, medium storage warp NAP €35 Sensational Eveready Singers – Never too young to die / See about me – Ne Bo 5140 Cool acapella kiddie gospel obscurity from South Carolina Visual grade: VG+ €35 Renee Brooks – The Lord will make a way / I've got Jesus and that's enough – Pisces 1002 Under the radar wailin' gospel R&B with an uptempo dancer on the flip.
