Tokyo, Japan – Dadmandog, a project bringing back the sounds of early 80s Boogie and Post-Disco, is set to release its debut full-length album, 2 Hours Behind, on 21 September, 2024.

2 Hours Behind delves into the transitional period from analog to digital in the disco scene, perfectly recreating the sound of studio sessions from that era. Laid-back yet tight rhythms, groovy basslines, and shimmering vocoder create an authentic early 80s Boogie experience. With city pop and nu-disco gaining renewed attention, Dadmandog focuses on the roots of the genre – funk. Using the latest digital technology, the album achieves an old-school sound reminiscent of analog warmth. Featuring nine continuous, danceable tracks, 2 Hours Behind is a must-listen for funk enthusiasts.

The album artwork, shot by Japanese photographer lyuhuji in a Xinjiang, China disco, captures the retro interior and unique dance culture, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. The album’s title, “2 Hours Behind,” refers to Xinjiang Time, two hours behind Beijing, symbolizing the album’s timeless, old-school sound.

Dadmandog, the solo project of Yamato Shibasaki, is known for its distinctive grooves that capture the raw energy as if a funk band jamming in the studio.

One enjoyment of funk, or rare groove, is the act of “digging”. This is the pleasure of discovering rare and previously unknown records in record shops, and encountering new music. Once a piece of music becomes well-known, it inevitably loses its novelty. These rare grooves are, of course, “old records”, and it’s virtually impossible for “new 80s funk records releases” to be made unless we could somehow time travel. With the advancements of the internet, video platforms like YouTube, and the ease of cross-border e-commerce that made everything way more accessible, discovering unknown funk has become more difficult. The Dadmandog project aims to provide a new digging experience for funk lovers, listeners, and DJs. Our goal was to create technically a “new” 80s funk record.
