Dobber Posted Sunday at 07:57 Share Posted Sunday at 07:57 Can’t believe I’ve never heard this before, this is top class northern soul! my first thought was it’s an unreleased Tommy hunt tune,or maybe chuck Jackson? following the YouTube comments led me to the stefan Taylor video, and Tommy hunt is in the vid,so surely the song is Tommy hunt? 1 1 Link to comment Social source share
washlively Posted Sunday at 11:21 Share Posted Sunday at 11:21 I commented on the YT clip thinking it sounded like Dean Parrish. Whoever it is, it's mega! 1 Link to comment Social source share
Twoshoes Posted Sunday at 13:32 Share Posted Sunday at 13:32 Someone on the comments says it is Stefan Taylor if you look on discogs there is a video of Stefan Taylor, same song clearly a different singer but... I'm not sure on this other's on here will have a better idea but is the older black guy who appears in the video Tommy hunt? It shows him a couple of times. Jim Elliott Posted Sunday at 13:45 Share Posted Sunday at 13:45 I know Butch says it's "Chuck Jackson". Sounds like a New York recording to my ears. Echoes of Dean Parrish, Chuck and Tommy Hunt vocally. Absolutely wonderful, whoever it is. Shame I've called it a day, it sounds great down in that basement. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Woodbutcher Posted Sunday at 13:51 Share Posted Sunday at 13:51 Kitch first then Butch picked on up on e-bay as I recall , think it's uncredited on the two acetates. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Defo Tommy hunt in the video,he must know that it’s him singing, and I doubt you would have Tommy in the vid if it wasn’t him singing the original acetate? Mal C Posted Sunday at 15:13 Share Posted Sunday at 15:13 Interesting charcters in that video, Yann in the start, then James trouble at the end. I think that sounded like Chuck Jackson personally. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Dobber Posted Monday at 09:38 Author Share Posted Monday at 09:38 This is the band doing a cover version of said song,as you see in the video Tommy hunt appears,I personally think the acetate is Tommy hunt singing, because I don’t believe a band would record, make a video, have Tommy in the video if it wasn’t tommys song! Surely Tommy must know that he recorded the song, and wouldn’t he himself be asking why they want him in the video if it wasn’t him singing? Link to comment Social source share
Chalky Posted Monday at 10:04 Share Posted Monday at 10:04 The songwriters don't know who is singing it. Asked Dean Parrish, Sidney Barnes, quite a few, no one knew. Link to comment Social source share

I doubt they know who recorded the original, just used a UK based souls tar to cover it. Know one seems to know who it was on the original and its just assumptions. Anyone asked Tommy? Yeah you would think Tommy would have confirmed it is him whom originally recorded it,or why bother being on a video of a song that isn’t you? Peter99 Posted Monday at 10:26 Share Posted Monday at 10:26 It's probably gonna run and run this one. Decent dance floor reaction. It's not really my bag at all - could be a white singer. Whatever happened to James Trouble? He seemed to have appeared on the scene, got loads of trouble, and then disappeared. That of course is an entirely different thread. Benji Posted Monday at 11:30 Share Posted Monday at 11:30 (edited) If the record in the video wasn't played at the correct speed it's hard to tell who might have sung it. Based on the phrasing I think it could be Chuck Jackson Ben E. King Edited Monday at 11:31 by Benji Link to comment Social source share
Dobber Posted Monday at 11:40 Author Share Posted Monday at 11:40 So strong contenders so far… TOMMY HUNT (I think it’s him) CHUCK JACKSON BEN E KING Link to comment Social source share
Geoff Posted Monday at 13:03 Share Posted Monday at 13:03 Used to love this down the 100 Club, although have requested Kitch to play it occasionally. Butch told me it sounds like Chuck Jackson hence the cover up name. Sensational record in my opinion but someone I know said it sounded like Tony Christie, I felt like giving up at that point. Brings back happy memories of the 100 Club and I'm on the video dancing, hope no one recognises me. 1 Link to comment Social source share
