Geeselad Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Hi all was searching for this Wigan classic on discogs and find all of the caneil releases deemed unofficial, what was the genuine label for this? Many thanks in advance, geese. I know I'll get some stick but always loved this Wigan tune.
Davace Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Caneil is the correct label.Raised x in the deadwax for the original. 2
Geeselad Posted August 21 Author Posted August 21 I thought so but discogs gives me this https://www.discogs.com/master/1411979-Joey-Dee-And-The-New-Starlighters-How-Can-I-Forget You.cant purchase any of those, blocked from sale.
Geeselad Posted August 21 Author Posted August 21 I've searched a bit and can't find out a great deal about this record, which really surprises me, considering how it it apparently was at the Casino. Doesn't seem any other releases on the label, and apart from it's connection to the Tof record label very little detail at all.
Mithras Posted August 21 Posted August 21 the originals are styrene a X easy to see but as times go on they seem to be rarer than we thought,it got booted on a look a like and a few more but discogs is not the be all and end ,I have only had 2 copies over 55+ years funny was not a masive spin around 75 didnt hear it a lot, played around the time of Anderson Bros ect only heard it the odd time
Tlscapital Posted August 21 Posted August 21 (edited) Discogs parano stand shows that they're not knowing any better. Yes indeed it only shows 4 bootlegs entries. Someone must create the legit issue entry for this rare sole release for the Caneil label. which is some work. Edited August 21 by Tlscapital

Solidsoul Posted August 21 Posted August 21 When I came home from the Casino this instrumental tune would buzz around in my head for days! It's a record for amphetamine fuelled allnighters! 1
Mithras Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Never heard it at Cleethorpes remember sammy play Bari Track there though underated Venue.. Bird Walkin was much later ....
Agentsmith Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Just now, Mithras said: Never heard it at Cleethorpes remember sammy play Bari Track there though underated Venue.. Can't say i remember hearing it 75....deffo 76 though..our necknof the woods West Mids, Wulfrun & Civic Hall soul nights, Wolvo for sure...Pep would definitely have been playing it...it wouldn't be unlike Sam playing it, even if it was the instrumental and not the vocal as, he played backing tracks same as any other jock " Soul Step " The Dogs was another white artist track he played....that wouldve been 77/8ish maybe.

There has been lots of different venues used for allnighters, soul nights and weekenders over the decades, with lots of different promoters.
Mithras Posted August 21 Posted August 21 THE PIER .... was there at the time of the video camera dance comp (see you tube) magic days Also when Tony Dellar DROPPED R.B Freeman Im Shaft as first spin L.O.L. on the way theres a village called swalow cant get any better..

Original is yellow styrene with Matt label and raised 'X' machined matrix. Edited August 21 by Tlscapital 3
Pga1 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Seen a few on discogs classed as unofficial?? Lack of knowledge can become fact as many of us know, cheers
Chalky Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I've tried to ad a real one on Discogs but it just says Caneil not a real label

The Yank Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Not sure why Caneil isn't considered a "real label". I don't think any U.S. Pop Music stations would have been playing bootlegs in the 60's . The single is at #63- 1
The Yank Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) Here's a list from Record World of showing current singles in alphabetical order with "How Can I..." on Caneil - Edited August 22 by The Yank 2
