Hi everyone, I'm looking to make a list, just for my own amusement, of records that Butch has played out over the years. I'm specifically looking for records that he has broken or were exclusive to him, from any era, rather than underplayed tunes/forgotten oldies that he has revived etc.

I'd be grateful for all suggestions.

Thanks in advance, Tony T.

two from me that take me to the 9ts and early 2000’s…

Clara Hardy & Magic Tones -  it’s you (ex shifty spin)

Inspirations - Gotta find a new love

He used to kick off his sets with Glady's Knight "It's too late (for you and me)

It was like a call out to get ready for a 60 minute rare soul masterclass.

Was he the first to play it, I'm not sure.?

Hi Tony

I hope you're ok my friend.

I seem to have a distant memory that we had a Butch thread some time ago, and I think it would be a fair time ago at that. I'll try and do a search in a bit.

@mike

Mike might have a better memory than me and he's certainly a lot more agile around the site. (and that's not because he's younger than me)! 😂

All the best.

Peter

He wasn't the first to play it but I do appreciate the input. Love that record!

Dave withers the first with that covered up as Lorraine Chandler.  It was amongst the first batch of unissued Motown to turn up on the tapes from @Robbk given to Rod Shard.

If I'm not mistaken did Butch have it on a proper acetate.

I remember John Vincent was a regular at the Morecambe Pier allnighters in the early 1980's and he was playing the Just Bros (Sharpees) Go On And Laugh.

I think he could have been the first to play it.

And I think, Darrell banks - knocking at your door? There are a few of those all different cuts of the same song, Richard Searling has one for sure.

different version of Ann Haywood on Hondo, and he used to spin a real fast track at the 100 club, with a kinda Latin break, can’t remember the name, it’s on Jet Set records…

How's about some of the more "modern" feeling tunes? There's a couple that have been posted. That's not a prompt for a debate about modern, newies etc.

Thanks

It went to JV from JA, back to JA then to Butch

The Ann Heywood is a different Artist on a west coast label, the other side he plays more which is far better.

Nice track. I couldn't say whether he was the first, other's are better placed. Certainly something that Sam would play - but that's not very helpful is it.

I was going to add the 'Chuck Jackson' - I need You acetate to the list but I believe Kitch had it before Mark got his off e-bay.

Proper no holds barred all-nighter aggro-soul at its best whoever got there first.

Don't really remember Butch getting behind Joseph Webster tbh, was around in the 80s and hammered in the 00's by others

I remember the first ‘Modern’ set butch did, I mean officially like at a do, me and Derek Jack hung about for that… it was great set, but not many folks turned up,,, some where in London I think… anyhow he’s on here, sure he remembers the night…

DB, is brill as you say, but is it a butch spin? I think so but I can’t be sure

that Latin break track I mentioned was Jimmy Castor - it’s ok, on Jet Set.
