Guest Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I've got the most fabuloso cd called Dave Hamilton's Detroit Dancers vol.3 and there is a particular track on it called Blue Vibes - this is the only track where the Artist is shown to be Dave Hamilton! Did he write this track? I love the bit where the glock player doesn't quite catch up with the rest of the band There is another track on this cd called Honest I Do by the Tokays Did they do anything else? The lead singers voice is beautiful!
Guest Baz Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Dave Hamiton was a prolific Writer/producer from Detriot, Vol 3 is a most excellent CD as is Vol 2 the opening track on Vol 2 Danny Cobus "Just the two of us", is one of the most beutiful pieces of soul music i've herd for years! Alot of his work can be found on the Topper lable

I never read sleeve notes I've got a whole massive box of CD's in the garage - I never play the originals, how ironic! - just pop them on my computer and store them. I'll certainly be buying the other volumes... I'm off to Amazon right now!
Guest Stuart T Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Oooh.. I'll have to dig the CD out then! I never read sleeve notes You won't regret buying them. I often wonder how many people actually read the sleeve notes, I always do but forget most of it within seconds.
Guest Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I've just ordered the other two volumes, bargain at £17.96 delivered! What can someone tell me about the Tokays though? Before I try and dig out the sleeve

I had that put on a dub a while back and got asked to play it again in the same set. I know a couple of others who have had it cut and play it out. I did ask Ady if it was alright though (I waited until he looked really p#ssed first ).

Before I try and dig out the sleeve I don't write those notes for fun you know! Two of the Tokays who had a great Northern record on Tokay-Baby Baby baby, were Chico and Buddy whose 'You Don't Miss Your Water' on Vol 1 is an unissued vocal to Sue Ann Jones I'll Give You My Love'. Most of their other stuff was quite funky. Expect a related question for the Cleethorpes Soul Mastermind quiz, it might be the first one your team gets right! Ady X

Ady X My lack of knowledge and memory cells ordinarily serve me well... I get a few free beers and a CD for the journey home.... And so far, each year, I've been pissed as a fart! And besides, I like coming last! There is method in my madness you know That Danny Cobus track is really nice - very Sunday afternoon! However, as you've mentioned the quiz and thrown me down your gauntlett, I may well answer this question correctly (I'll keep the sleeve notes in my bag!)
Corbett80 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Pices Pace/The Deacons are two great instros by him on TCB

Jo Yes it did and of course Buddy from Chico and Buddy was Buddy Smith. Chico's real name was Thelmer Jones nowt to do with Ms Thelma. Check out the OC Tolberts too. I think his original version of I'm Shooting High is fantabulous.
Ady Croasdell Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Pices Pace/The Deacons are two great instros by him on TCB There's a full CD of his 60s/70s jazz and funk instrumentals on our BGP label. Blue Funk got used in a Kentucky Fried Bird ad, handy dosh for Dave's lovely widow Alice.

Kent sleevenotes (which doesn't feel quite right a term for CDs) are always worth reading, in a way that isn't often true of Goldmine (other than the Stafford Story and Deep Soul Inferno IMHO).
Guest melandthensome Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Heres detroit's Dave Hamilton as far as I am aware the same as mentioned but knowing me its probably another detroit artist........anyone
Wilxy Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Yeah must agree ALL 3 Dave Hamilton Cd's are superb, and well worth owning, I'd like to think there was more of the same somewhere waiting for an airing

Check out the OC Tolberts too. I think his original version of I'm Shooting High is fantabulous. I hope that you got some royalties but Westcountry TV used it on a news feature once, something about training for school leavers. I think that they had a closet souls and jazz fan somewhere in the company as there was always something decent used on their features at the time, although I thought that the use of Home Is Where The Hatred Is was a bit risque for an article on heroin use in Plymouth!

Chalky Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Kent should maybe do a book with all the info they have published in their sleeve notes. Reckon they'd sell quite a few

Reckon they'd sell quite a few Great idea but I'm a bit too busy at the moment. Let's not forget it was Gilly from Burton/Willington who set the whole thing up and made it all possible. We've got one big trawl through the tapes to do then we should finish on Vol 4. 1

Ady Croasdell Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Is this the same dave hamilton of who you trying to fool fame the sound used by johnny vaughans soul patrol feature with the lino & talc in the supermarket ect That's the chap, a ditty he wrote with Little Ann and Ronnie Darryl, they hadn't envisaged the lino scenario at the time though. Interestingly Ian Levine thought this was the great Motown hit that never was and re-arranged with extra girlies and added backing for SWONS, I personally preferred the much tougher and deeper original.
