The Willie Hobbs is higher than i thought. I had issue and demo, sold the issue on here and kept the demo. An extra two minutes of your wife getting killed in a car crash on your wedding day is a bit too much. South African 45 has the long version too. Willie Hobbs is a great artist, i think i've had all his records.

On a side note his song "Where Did I Go Wrong" on the same label is on 3 different CD's and they all follow each other by wrongly playing the Jackie Beavers version.

Not really earth shattering that lot, some great classic tracks of course, but would not been have flapping about in anticipation of putting a bid an most of those. Lee andrews acetate was nice...

I know the Constellations is in demand, good record too, but it never ceases to amaze me what it goes for. I've had several (regrettably all sold for a lot less than £1700).

I was told by the buyer that when I sold up around 1985 there were 6 copies of this 45 which I believe was relatively unknown at the time ( I stand to be corrected on this!)

1985 was around when I started collecting properly inc travelling to the US and at that time I don't think it was very well known.

My memory is hazy, but I seem to recall it (IDKAY) started being played around 1986/7. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

As to quantity, I've had about six myself so I'd add a couple of zeros and maybe more!

I stopped collecting around 74 so I'm thinking I  got one from Bradford Market unheard and then went back to get their other copies after playing it at home. I'd stopped DJing at the time so never got to play it out☹

I think you’re correct on this Julian as it was unknown at the time. The mention of 6 copies merely confirms it was well and truly under the radar at the time. That said, I’ve seen it reported as a Casino spin.

I picked up my copy in the early 90’s never having heard it before. Dave Skeen of Nottingham put me onto this juke-box supplier in Columbus, Ohio - when I got there, Coach Bob wouldn’t let me behind the counter but there was a copy of IDKAY sitting there. I sampled it and took it away without asking about other stock. I spun the record in public in 1996 when it was still relatively unknown but I recall having read there was a bit of discussion about it at the time. Someone who attended the 100 Club got hold of the Columbus stock and dripped them out stoking further demand. Since then, every copy at auction regardless of condition, has sold for decent money. This is a seriously good record but the demand for it will never be fulfilled so the price will only go up and up.

It was known in the 1970's and often sold with the other good Constellations "I Didn't Know How To" side by side on lists, for not very much money.

It's just that "I Don't Know About You" was not in vogue at that time. Possibly if someone had played it in a venue it might have taken off!

I remember back in the 70's, playing it on the home record player, it seemed a little too laid back for the  allnighters, even though now it sounds great👍

I bought both mid 90s after Derek Pearson recommended them in SoS. "Didnt know how to" was 15 quid, "Don't know about you" 25. Plenty of copies around. I sold for 75 and 100 in the early 2ks when I thought price had peaked due to the number of copies around. Not one of smartest decisions.
