Guest leatrix Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Hi there everyone, ok, i'm desperately trying to get all the lyrics together for the track If You Ask Me by Jerry Williams. I've done a lot of it, but i'm finding the first verse difficult, i've listed what i have here, can anyone add to it, or at least let me know where i've gone wrong (without laughing hysterically at my lame attempt! ) Many thanks, Leatrix I Love You x 4 If you ask me for heather, I'd give you a mountain top. If you wanted to hear a lot of music, I would get all the angels with their harps. If you asked for a glass of water, I would run all the rivers dry. If you wanted someone else, I would gracefully step aside. Because.... I Love You x 2 If you wanted my life, It would be okay. Cause I love the ground you walk on, baby, yesterday. You're my deal, my ambition my reason for livng each day. You're the alpha & omega, there's nothing left to say Because...... I Love You x 2 If you wanted my life, It would be okay. Cause I love the ground you walk on, baby, yesterday. You're my deal, my ambition, my reason for living each day. You're the alpha & omega, there's nothing left to say... (fade)
Pete S Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Think he's more likely to be asking for heaven rather than heather on that first line
Guest leatrix Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 lol, i did wonder that, but i thought, why would you ask for a mountain top of heaven I'm seriously losing the plot aren't i??? lol! Okay, i bow down to your wisdom, and plump for heaven and ideal Thanks so much!
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 It's "If You Asked Me For A Pebble", which makes the 'Mountain Top' analogy that much more sensible! TONE
Pete S Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 It's "If You Asked Me For A Pebble", which makes the 'Mountain Top' analogy that much more sensible! TONE In your brain maybe Also the line Cos I love the ground you walk on must be wrong, there's a word or two words before 'yesterday'
Barry Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 In your brain maybe Also the line Cos I love the ground you walk on must be wrong, there's a word or two words before ....? before 'yesterday' Possibly!?
Andyf Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 In your brain maybe Also the line Cos I love the ground you walk on must be wrong, there's a word or two words before 'yesterday' Always thought it was the day before yesterday, but you know what my hearing's like
Pete S Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Always thought it was the day before yesterday, but you know what my hearing's like Pardon?
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 In your brain maybe Also the line Cos I love the ground you walk on must be wrong, there's a word or two words before 'yesterday' My brain, and Swamp's biro.... "Cos I Love The Ground You Walked On, Day Before Yesterday" is what he's singing at that point - past tense...
Andyf Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Always thought it was the day before yesterday, but you know what my hearing's like Pardon? B*****ks. Fell straight into that one
Ringleader Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 this is what I think the lyrics are ....I listened to the Jerry Williams and the Chip Tyler version both were produced by Jerry Williams I Love You x 4 If you ask me forever I would give you a mountain top. If you wanted to hear enough music, I would get all the angels with their harps. If you asked for a glass of water, I would run all the rivers dry. If you wanted someone else, I would gracefully step aside. Because.... I Love You x 2 If you wanted my life, It would be okay. Cause I love the ground you walked on, day before, yesterday. davidwapples Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 It's "If You Asked Me For A Pebble", which makes the 'Mountain Top' analogy that much more sensible! TONE i thought it said this aswell
Pete S Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 You're my deal Don't make sense...and it definitely has the words play or playing before harp I reckon
Guest rachel Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I think it's.... "I Love You x 4 If you asked me for a pebble, I would give you a mountain top. If you wanted to hear a note of music, I would get all the angels with their harps. If you asked for a glass of water, I would run all the rivers dry. If you wanted someone else, I would gracefully step aside. Because.... I Love You x 2 If you wanted my life, It would be okay. Cause I love the ground you walked on, day before yesterday. You're my deal(????), my ambition, my reason for living each day. You're the alpha & omega, there's nothing left to say Because...... I Love You x 2 If you wanted my life, It would be okay. Cause I love the ground you walked on, day before yesterday. You're my deal(????), my ambition, my reason for living each day. You're the alpha & omega, there's nothing left to say " It does sound like 'deal' in that line... going for another listen... great lyrics though.. well the ones we can figure out
Ged Parker Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I think it's.... "I Love You x 4 If you asked me for a pebble, I would give you a mountain top. If you wanted to hear a note of music, I would get all the angels with their harps. If you asked for a glass of water, I would run all the rivers dry. If you wanted someone else, I would surely step aside. Because.... I Love You x 2 If you wanted my life, It would be okay. Cause I love the ground you walk on be it now or yesterday. You're my dream, my ambition, my reason for living each day. You're the alpha & omega, there's nothing left to say Because...... I Love You x 2 If you wanted my life, It would be okay. Cause I love the ground you walk on be it now or yesterday. You're my dream, my ambition, my reason for living each day. You're the alpha & omega, there's nothing left to say " Thats my pitch anyway
Gasher Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Think he's more likely to be asking for heaven rather than heather on that first line No it is actually "HEATHER" as he was Scottish by default.
Guest in town Mikey Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) I sing: Pebble Respectfully step aside Dream hope etc I used to sing: You're an apple and an egger (alpha and omega) Edited March 20, 2007 by in town Mikey
Paul R Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I sing: Pebble Respectfully step aside Dream hope etc I used to sing: You're an apple and an egger (alpha and omega) & I thought the angels "pluck their harps"? Paul Did I hear that Pete Lawson had the words Tattooed?
Guest in town Mikey Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 & I thought the angels "pluck their harps"? Paul Did I hear that Pete Lawson had the words Tattooed? Oh yes. I'm a plucker too.
Guest mel brat Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Think he's more likely to be asking for heaven rather than heather on that first line Oh that's priceless! - We've all done it though I bet! Quick! - Start a new thread on mis-heard lyrics! There must be loads of anecdotes on that particular subject! I remember one guy in 1977 raving over something he called "Hey You, What's That Scent You've Got On" It turned out he'd heard "Hey You, What'cha Say C'mon" by Roy Ayres! At a local Youth Club in 1972, a girl asked me if I'd "play that record that goes - Jesus Christ (dar-da-dar)..." She wanted to hear "WALK IN THE NIGHT" by Jr. Walker!! At a local Youth Club in 1972, a girl asked me if I'd "play that record that goes - Jesus Christ (dar-da-dar)..." She wanted to hear "WALK IN THE NIGHT" by Jr. Walker!! Misunderstood titles, too - when I worked in record retail I'd get them all the time. One of my favourites was the splendidly dressed African man who came onto P & J's in Walthamstow in 1973 and solemnly informed me "You Look Better In De Dark". Allowing for the fact that I probably do these days, he actually wanted "Homely Girl" by the Chi-Lites. The title of that song is mentioned at least a dozen times during the course of the lyrics, so you might have thought he'd have picked up on it at least once... Perhaps even better was the stroppy woman who came into HMV Lewisham in 1981 and demanded a copy of "A Fool's A Fool" - took me and several staff members several minutes to deduce that she actually wanted "You'll Never Know" by Hi-Gloss, the title of which is mentioned close to 40 times during the song's duration. By the way and back on topic, Jerry sings "You're My Ideal, My Ambition, My Reason For Living etc. etc." Wouldn't have thought that there'd be much room for debate there, really...

Guest in town Mikey Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I missed a trick once. A girl in our scooter club was going to get 'Gary Lane' sprayed onto her side panels, with a picture of the Who alongside. I sometimes regret saying "Daz, its called - I can't explain"
Guest Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 (edited) To be honest, I also thought that was called Oh Jesus Christ! I just assumed they were singing...dee dah dah, dee dee dee dee dee, dee dah dar... -------------- P.S. Guest Fatius Bumius Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Mis-heard lyrics - about 3 years ago going along to a pub to play a few records with a mate, a mid-week soul and motown night. Mainly youth club and commercial stuff the locals would know hopefully to drag a few punters in. We played a few not so commercial bits in between. These few songs must have triggered memories off for one fella and came up to ask for a record. Request goes: "I used to go Wigan, and do the northern thing, I remember when".....and off he goes telling us about his good old days. "It's a brilliant record, have you got it, only I can't remember what it's called. It's got curtains in it, curtains on fire, something like that, do you know it? Could you play it?" What a fruitcake, he's lost the plot. Curtains ? Fire ? He came up to the decks again a couple of times to ask if we had found the record for him yet. No, sorry.... A bit later on, out comes a detroit LP, we put that on to play a track. Glad we did, mystery of the curtain song solved. All of a sudden this bloke jumped up, thumbs in the air, a big grin on his face, shouting "Cheers mate, you found it then". Me and my mate with a blank face, as if to say found what exactly? Talk about laugh, laughed that hard my chest hurt, tears rolling down my face. It was Jimmy Mack - My World is on Fire! aka My Curtains on fire Still laugh about it till this day.
Guest leatrix Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 omg, now i'm completely lost! at least i do know one thing... It's *definately* NOT heather! (beginning to wish i never stuck my neck out and typed that line out!) I even got an early morning call this morning, with the words shouted at me 'you know i think it is heather' and that comes from someone who tells me my Justin Timberlake album is a pile of *insert chosen words here* and nothing beats a Prestatyn all nighter So there you go, i'm not the only one whose obviously as deaf as a doorpost. Actually, i've found the official Swampdog website, so i've sent a well penned and utterley buttered up email requesting said lyrics, so will keep you posted! Taking bets now!
