Guest mark shepherd Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 just logged on to ebay to see a VG (plays with some crackle) copy of - DIFFERENCES - 5 MINUTES - MONCA with 26 bids, sell for over $1100 has the world gone mad, surely it cant be worth it, in that condition ?
Val (Chunky) Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I know it's a great crossover choon.....am I'm the only one who is sick to death of hearing it?
Barry Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Differences - Five Minutes 3538 refosoul Thanks Rachel. Very nice....but hardly a knee trembler is it?!
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Differences - Five Minutes 3538 refosoul Definitely think that the Stranglers 'Five Minutes' is better than this....
Pete S Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Definitely think that the Stranglers 'Five Minutes' is better than this.... Oh yes indeed
Rugby Soul Club Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Oh yes indeed One of my favourite old punk singles.....

Guest mark shepherd Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 OK SO WHO WANTS TO SELL ME A DIFFERENCES AT A DECENT PRICE THEN? and what is a decent price ? if a poor copy fetches £600 on ebay what would a copy bring on JM,s auction id sell you mine gasher, but after you offered £40 for the papa bear and the cubs i think or prices would but a little far apart
Guest the dukester Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 and what is a decent price ? if a poor copy fetches £600 on ebay what would a copy bring on JM,s auction id sell you mine gasher, but after you offered £40 for the papa bear and the cubs i think or prices would but a little far apart Shep, Manship did auction one not too long ago and it went for £900+ By the way how much do you want for yours cant sell my Granny this time though.....she went on another deal I did!!! Rant time......... Ive said it before on here countless times and I will say it again and again.....Its there money they can spend it how they want You can never get enough of what you don't need to make you happy. Oh yes you people who dont like it.......... ITS CLASS AND THE SOONER YOU REALISE THIS THE BETTER.
Steve G Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Definitely think that the Stranglers 'Five Minutes' is better than this.... It's a great tune featuring the vocals of Clifton Dyson on lead and I never tire of hearing it. However I do agree $1,100 for a crackly pops copy is weird. Like the unplayable Ernestine Eady which went for $2,000 recently - the world is round but it's also completely bonkers at times.
Pete S Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Oh yes you people who dont like it.......... ITS CLASS AND THE SOONER YOU REALISE THIS THE BETTER. The bass line is fantastic, the rest of it sound slike the B side of a Real Thing record, there must be hundreds of records that sound just like this, I wouldn't pay 10p for it. No actually I would, then sell it to some mug.

I mean that L Allen you posted up the other day - I'd forgotten why I never bought it in the past - so thanks for reminding me - I've heard better vocals from some drunks at 10 to 11 in the local pub here in Cheshunt on Karaoke night. I guess if we all liked the same thing it would be pretty boring.
Guest Simon Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Definitely think that the Stranglers 'Five Minutes' is better than this.... Indeed Tony, 'Five minutes' is fantastic! Been listening to 'The Raven' LP lately, love the angular jauntiness of 'Shah a-go-go'! Simon

I've never analized his vocal, it's a bostin' northern soul record and thats all thats important to me, whereas that crossover thing is just a non-event, dull and unmemorable
Steve G Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I thought you were talking about me at Prestatyn on Friday night for a moment Steve No no you were sobre mate, and sounding much better than L Allen
Pete S Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Having said that, all these records just sound the same to me so I'll never like any of them so I should stop listening to them.

I remember when Clifton Dyson appeared at the Norfolk Village, copies seemed to appear out of the woodwork, which he was happy to sign.
Pete S Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Pete, So how does this compair to Tolbert - I Got it, as I remember you were a "big fan" of that? Seriously - this is what I think - I've had people telling me that all reggae sounds the same for nearly 40 years now. And I just tell them that they are obviously missing something that I'm picking up. It must be the same with this kind of soul music, I'm just not getting it whereas others are. But I enjoy this stuff as much as say techno music - none of it bears any resemblence to the music I like, which is northern soul.
Martint Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Indeed Tony, 'Five minutes' is fantastic! Been listening to 'The Raven' LP lately, love the angular jauntiness of 'Shah a-go-go'! Simon my favorite stranglers album, brilliant
Pete S Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 my favorite stranglers album, brilliant The only time I went to see The Stranglers, The Raven had just come out and they played the entire album and none of the 'oldies' we'd come to hear, selfish bastards, they did two oldies as encores then f*cked off, they went down in my estimation after that. Anyway, first albums the best...

Anyway, first albums the best... That would probably go down quite well now, seems to be trendy to do a whole gig playing one of your classic albums, recent gigs include Gary Numan doing 'Telecon', OMD 'Architecture & morality', Zombies 'Odyssey oracle' & plenty more acts doing the same i'm sure. I think it's great personally, better than hearing a boring old greatest hits package banged out plus a lot of the time the album tracks are as good if not better than the singles. Simon
Daz Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I know it's a great crossover choon.....am I'm the only one who is sick to death of hearing it? This used to be one of my favourites but yet again another one of those 45s that has and is being overplayed, i agree im completely sick of hearing it now. This must have been played at least eight times at Prestatyn. A wise tip would be to sell your copy now and cash in on it. OVERPLAYED & OVERPRICED IN ANY CONDITION! Daz

Simon Don't agree, especially when the album is a new release and has yet to get into the publics conscience, if you know what I mean, like The Raven was when I saw them. Also I saw Gary Numan on that Telekon tour on the night of the day the album came out, so I had to buy it from HMV in town after I left work at 4.30, go home, get ready to go out while listening to it and trying to remember the songs, then back up to town to get the train to brum for the concert, which to be honest was a bit shit compared to the one the year before at the Civic (pleasure principle tour). Though if he played in Wolvo I'd consider going to see him.

Would love to see Numan play the whole of 'The Pleasure principal', my two fave Numan tracks are on that album, 'Metal' & 'M.E'. Simon
