Just Google Sam Dees - found love love in my own back yard.

samdeesunrel.thumb.PNG.7c81134dbe6bf5b3e623f5016e657b7b.PNG

A search here on Soul Source would have lead you there too but Google's a lot quicker ... :)

Just as a matter of interest, was it "Funny" that becket was asking about, as that is the track in the mixcloud link.

If he meant "Found Love In My Own Back Yard", then is that clip also in the link, (I haven't been though the whole show).

"Funny" is new to me, and I love it. I'd love to hear the other side.

I didn't actually listen to it to be honest , and obviously didn't read the post properly either ...

That is interesting.
It is "found love in my own back yard" sound clip I was after.
When I listened to that clip I thought it was a bit slow.
It is quite a few years since hearing it at Cleggy. - so cloth ears have let me down.
(and also not listened to the whole clip WoodButcher put up)
If anyone finds a link etc to that title it would be great.

Wish I could also remember the DJ that played it - anyone ?

Sam Dees - found love love in my own back yard (unreleased Chess 45)

Heard this played out a few times in the Modern Room, Cleggy Weekenders.
I thought it was a stand out tune.

No sound file anywhere that I can find.
Obviously you would want to keep this exclusive.
Cannot remember who the DJ was that had it - someone please remind me.
I take it to be an acetate or pre-release copy.

Deffo would be a great 45 to have if it had achieved a proper release eh ?

Think Sean Hampsey has the only known copy ,it’s an acetate .

Did he buy it from Rod Dearlove? I'm pretty sure Rod was first person to have it...he mentioned it in an old copy of Voices From Shadows....

I’ve asked Sean ,he says that Steve Guarnori had the copy off Rod Dearlove ,and Sean got his off eBay ,so 2 acetate copies known ….

I guess “ Modern Soul “‘is a subjective term ,but a few I’ve heard out at places like The 100 Club and beyond ….

Jax Transit Authority- Life Is A Miracle ( Covered up as The O’Jays ,and you can see why ,with the “ I Love Music “ style intro )

Doc Peabody - Here Without You - Both Sides ( beautiful mid tempo )

Love Company - Love Tempo ( big on several different scenes )

Fluorescent Smogg - All Of My Life - WG ( Known since the 80’s ,but remained rare ,beautiful falsetto led side )

Melvin Moore - All Of A Sudden ( Sky Hero ) As good as it gets Modern Soul ,known since the early 80’s …

Hope this small list helps ,not played at all Northern Soul venues ,but huge records in the right places

I’m not involved in the current nighter scene, but if I was, how about the Estimations/‘Cant do that to me’ ? Super lovely sound that I’m pleased to have a copy of courtesy of this fine site.
Although not rare, I’d also suggest Stanley Williams/‘Count the days’.

This is a good one atm been hearing it fairly often.

Sorry but anything containing those bloody awful synth 'pew-pews' has no place at an all-niter ... 🤮

The MD1932 release is acceptable though ...

In that case, YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG and should keep your opinions to yourself.

According to you , and as that's just another opinion I shall politely ignore it and get on with my evening , without resorting to oh so scary 'shouty' capitals I might add ... :hatsoff2:

You're just showing off Steve!

There are a number of different releases - I like them all. Back in the day, dancing my socks off I never knew/wouldn't have noticed whether the bongos were bonging or not!

It's a modern soul anthem; I love it.

I hope all is well mate.

Another vote for no pew-pews at an all niter or in fact in any records.....IMHO. Reminds me of when my little sister bought a copy of Anita Ward-Ring my Bell it f'kin drove me mad for moths, she would play it over and and over again,

Nice to see Neil Reed listed here, doesn't really get enough praise, both sides being choice selects and brilliant raw Detroit productions and Tony Gregory having a moment, truly underrated and worth having a dig through his catalogue of soulful bits and bobs. I would say this is probably one of the most in demand titles from the modern stable which Butch plays and the only place I've ever heard it is the 100 club.
