Guest Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Dear Northern Soul fan, I am writing to ask for volunteers willing to write a brief account of being a northern soul fan. This account need only be a few paragraphs in length (or longer if you prefer!) and will potentially be published as part of ongoing research at the University of Salford and the University of Leeds. You have received this email either because you have contributed to past research surveys I have conducted and / or because your specific experience of northern soul has made a notable impression on the research conducted on the northern soul scene to date. All that is required is brief comment about your personal experience of northern soul in relation to one (or more) of the following: *your experience of, love for, or definition of northern soul DANCING * your experience of or love for COLLECTING northern soul RECORDS *your experience of, love for or tips on DEEJAYING at northern soul events *your experience(s) of seeing northern soul artists perform LIVE on the northern scene. *your personal account of being a (long-standing) northern soul FAN *stories of your FIRST EXPERIENCE of northern soul *personal thoughts on how the scene has CHANGED over time The research and the following publications focus on the fan experience so what we want are stories, memories and personal accounts of what northern soul means to the people on the scene. If you are passionate about northern soul we want you to explain why northern soul is so special and so unique. We are particularly interested in people who feel they can explain what northern soul means, how it is defined and what it means to them. So if you think you have a story to tell, you want to see your ideas published and you can spare some time to document your thoughts, then we would love to hear from you. Please send replies to this email address. All replies will be kept confidential and if your account of being a northern soul fan is selected to be included in any publications resulting from this research, you will be notified before publication (with an option to review your contribution). Thank you, N. Smith Adelphi Research Institute University of Salford/ University of Leeds. n.j.smith@pgr.salford.ac.uk
