Jackie Wilson Biography

Jack Leroy Wilson Jr. (June 9, 1934 – January 21, 1984) was an American soul singer and performer. A tenor with a four-octave range, Wilson was a prominent figure in the transition of rhythm and blues into soul. Wilson was considered a master showman and one of the most dynamic singers and performers in pop, R&B, and rock & roll history, earning the nickname "Mr. Excitement".

Wilson gained initial fame as a member of the R&B vocal group Billy Ward and His Dominoes. He went solo in 1957 and scored over 50 chart singles spanning the genres of R&B, pop, soul, doo-wop and easy listening, including 16 R&B Top 10 hits, in which six R&B of the repertoire ranked as number ones. On the Billboard Hot 100, Wilson scored 14 top 20 pop hits, six of which reached the top 10. Jackie Wilson was one of the most important and influential musical artists of his generation.

A two-time Grammy Hall of Fame Inductee, and winner of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation's special Legacy Tribute Award in 2003, Jackie Wilson was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Jackie Wilson #69 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Jackie Wilson - What a lovely way - sublime crossover - from the album You got me walking - but also on the issue 45 with 'You left the fire burning'.

From his "Beautiful Day" LP for me his best all round LP from the 70s.

if there was a new 'top 500' list I wonder where 'because of you' would land, top 10?

'Soul galore' is a fine term to sum up Jackie's output!

The who who song is pure northern soul, and as good as it gets.

Somebody please make a film about his life and use his son in the star role! Superb in Vegas last year.

Just looking at that video, you see how petit Jackie was, looks like he has what a 28/30 inch waist... but don’t they both look super dapper 🙂 Cha Cha cha...👣

Jackie Wilson brilliant. Think Twice with Lavern Baker is a good duet that has been playing in the car recently. The x rated version is a good take that needs to get played 😁

My fave JW track and one i've championed for years.. LP only so far as i'm aware unless it got an obscure foreign 45 release

'Everything is gonna be fine' - the note he hits at the end of the track is simply outrageous, and manages to send shivers down my spine each and everytime I hear it, Pure Magic !!

Hiya, Jackie wilson - night, I'd be up for that. Stafford had the ' by some the Jackie Wilson room'. So many styles, would it be overkill ? I could give it a whirl. A few decades and collaborations. Bring your Jackie tunes and spin em. Cheers

I seem to remember this as a duet with Jackie on an album of the same name on a small label called 'see for miles' (a subsidiary of 'Charley' records perhaps?) I think you can hear the man on here, so did John Mercer at the Wilton ballroom when he emerged from the gents and said 'what's this Jackie Wilson track'?
