Mike Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Euro 2024 kicks off tomorrow, am really looking forward to it all Any forecasts here such as.... How do ya think England or Scotland's campaign will go? Possible winners ? Teams/players to watch? Opener tomorrow Germany are odds on 1/4, what's our Scottish members take on this match? Schedule Friday, 14 June Germany v Scotland (20:00) - ITV Saturday, 15 June Hungary v Switzerland (14:00) - ITV Spain v Croatia (17:00) - ITV Italy v Albania (20:00) - BBC Sunday, 16 June Poland v Netherlands (14:00) - BBC Slovenia v Denmark (17:00) - ITV Serbia v England (20:00) - BBC
Mal C Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Spain & Italy to Win. England, who knows, the Scots could get an upset here if they go about it right... I think England are paper thin atm...
Jessie Pinkman Posted June 13 Posted June 13 I always want England and Scotland to do well. And my Scottish friends always want England's opponents to do well. 1
Shinehead Posted June 13 Posted June 13 England quarter finals , Scotland a jolly jaunt home after 3 matches Winners France or Spain.
Chalky Posted June 13 Posted June 13 England have one of the best midfields and attacks, I can't think of a team with a set better. Some have better individuals etc but its a team effort at tournaments. If Southgate gets his tactics right, lets the players off the leash as he did against Belgium then no reason why we can't win. Semi's should be a prerequisite with this squad. France probably have the more settled more experienced side and will be one of the favourites.

Paddy Ferry Posted June 13 Posted June 13 (edited) As nearly always with the Euro's an unfancied outsider does well , this year I think Austria could do well , tough group but a form team, also group E could throw a surprise other than Belgium , winners , Croatia/ Chech Rep . I've had a couple of quid on Scotland getting a draw, looking forward to it. Can't make my mind up on the top scorer but Lukaku was well clear in the qualifiers . Edited June 13 by Paddy Ferry
Guest Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Hard to see past France winning it. Not expecting much from Scotland but they qualified well. England should be at least semi-finals. If Southgate picks the right team.
Kenb Posted June 14 Posted June 14 I love Foden(not literally of course) …but Bellingham for the first game against Serbia

Serbia are an awkward team who tend to play on the break and will play one up front, so chose Trent as he gives far more attacking wise. The key to the game is keeping possession of the ball of course.

Shinehead Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Pickford Walker Stones Dunk Trippier Rice Saka Foden Bellingham Gordon Kane Let's have a go and throw off the shackles.
Woodbutcher Posted June 14 Posted June 14 I can't believe that the opening game kicks off at 8pm and is being shown live on ITV ... Surely Germany v Scotland is going to be a double figure bloodbath and therefore hardly pre-watershed viewing for anyone north of the border ... 1

Leicester Boy Posted June 16 Posted June 16 England should make quarter's, with a proper manager would have a chance of winning. 1
Kenb Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I’m nervous for England tonight…there’s been no surprises (yet). Most, if not all favourites have won. 1

Shinehead Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Only watched one full game so far the England match, as usual we flatter to deceive, a good opening spell a well taken goal and then nothing of note, second half good job they lacked any punch near goal after good build up play and if it wasn't for a great save from Pickford the papers would have slaughtered us this morning. I suppose we will grow into the tournament .
Chalky Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) I watched the England match, one of the worst performances so far of any team apart from Scotland. We didn't press, Foden had a poor game, the Alexander Arnold midfield experiment isn't working, he and Foden had what appeared to be a free role which left holes all over. Foden when he did stay left had no natural support with Trippier being right footed. Kane dropping back too much and no outlet upfront. Saka looked good, the defence was pretty good but we need to be into the faces, that is what they did to us, soon as we got the ball they were on us. We sat back and hoped for the best. Edited June 17 by Chalky 2
Leicester Boy Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Southgate is just a poor manager, the squad is capable of winning this but won't unfortunately. 1

Happy Feet Posted June 20 Posted June 20 That has to be the worst performance in a major tournament by any England team ever , is it possible that a Manager can be replaced and bring in one that knows how to get the best out of his players during a tournament, all these players are top quality and we are meant to be one of the favourites , B*llsh*t .
Shinehead Posted June 20 Posted June 20 (edited) England had no cohesion the players looked drained of energy and tactically inept. Edited June 20 by Shinehead
Chalky Posted June 20 Posted June 20 So unbalanced red and everyone bar Southgate can see it. Bellingham should be number 8 it is where he plays his best football at his club. Foden not so effective off the left, he should be number 10. T-A-A is not a midfielder. Kane should be told tom stay up front and press. 1

Zoomsoulblue Posted June 24 Posted June 24 No penalty - pulled shirt Only scored 5 goals in the last 7 years for Scotland - he would have bottled it anyway No shirt pulling - Ok I agree a penalty but he pulled the shirt coz he knew he wasn’t going to score , last min of the game panic 1
Benji Posted June 24 Posted June 24 (edited) I'm no fan of national tournaments especially when germany is involved, so I follow the euro less than half-heartedly, maybe quarter-heartedly. But anyway, my teenage daughter watches almost every game. And based on what she told me I predict the final to be: a) spain - france or b) spain - germany (just realized, this is bs, they will be playing against each other in the quarter finals) Edited June 25 by Benji 1
Divot Posted June 26 Posted June 26 A bit late but, definitely not a penalty but as a Scotland fan, if Steve Clarke rages about that not being a penalty and nothing else? For example, 1 shot on target the entire match, more sideways and back passes than forward, that was the real problem, we can't boast the talent of the young England players but you don't have to be the best to press and be brave, especially against a bang average team who must have gained in confidence when they see they had nothing to worry about! Roll on the World Cup. 2
Mike Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 A couple of days break and then onto the knock outs Euro 2024 - last-16 matches (all times BST) Switzerland v Italy (Saturday, 29 June, 17:00, Berlin) Germany v Denmark (Saturday, 29 June, 20:00, Dortmund) England v Slovakia (Sunday, 30 June, 17:00, Gelsenkirchen) Spain v Georgia (Sunday, 30 June, 20:00, Cologne) France v Belgium (Monday, 1 July, 17:00, Dusseldorf) Portugal v Slovenia (Monday, 1 July, 20:00, Frankfurt) Romania v Netherlands (Tuesday, 2 July, 17:00, Munich) Austria v Turkey (Tuesday, 2 July, 20:00, Leipzig) views so far on it all?
