Rob Moss Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Yes to both.'Our love' was on that red vinyl Detroit 12" ep that came out on Kool Kat. 'Tears' exists but didn't come out on vinyl.
Citizen P Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Do you mean the version that was played very early days of Wigan?? If so, that was on a cheap UK lp Sounds Of Motown or something similar, instrumental versions of various big Motown tunes, on Hallmark or one of those labels . Tony

Paul R Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 (edited) I remember this version being played in about '73 as some people have said, a cheapo LP. Clip below. (I will get used to this system by the time it changes) Fluff, Ill swap the album for a cd/dvd of early live Wigan Tapes. Paul Edited March 18, 2007 by Paul r

Guest Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Blimey that was a flashback seeing that album cover ! Contour did a whole series of Rock and Roll albums too including the 'Live' Little Richard LP from the Modern label, a Big Bopper album and various compilations including a lot of Mercury label things.. as an impoverished teenager this is what I was buying at the time, mainly from a shop on Leyton High Road. I distinctly remember seeing the Motown album in the Woolworths on Walthamstow High Street, but wasn't interested then in what the Teddy Boys called "Tamla Toytown" ! Now, what about the two EP's of Motown covers on another budget label, "Avenue" ? I remember reading somewhere thatthis version of 'Stop Her On Sight' played off of one of those covered up as Frank Wilson and Eddie Foster ? Edited March 20, 2007 by Simon White

There was one album I had with a great version of "You Keep Me Hanging On". I covered that one up as Madeline Bell. The thing is, it probably was her being a session singer . There was also the Donnie Elbert LP on Contour that was I think, all Otis Redding Covers. Mmmmm, Donnie Elbert sings Otis, Not the most exciting prospect. Paul Edited March 20, 2007 by Paul r

As a knock on to this thread in respect of instrumentals , does anyone remember the track that got some exposure on the scene , that came off a cheapo album ( Music For Pleasure , Marble Arch or similar .... cannot recall which label at the present ) , which was the full theme of / instrumental to The News At Ten opening music ? All the programme played at the start , as you will recall , was three or four bars , then a resounding " bong " - a la the chimes of Big Ben , to signify each of the headlining news stories .... The full track had this and more - it was followed by a careering stomper ! I will be seeing the well known chap who had the stated album this morning , and will get the respective details of title , artist and label ..... Ahh those halcyon days of checking cheapo albums to see if there was anything good on them .... Malc Burton
