I just picked this record up in my neighborhood this past weekend. Fantastic tune! How many records were on this Contact label? The only other one I know of is The Traits. Who was Anita Anderson? Fill me in! I made an .mp3 of the record for the unfamiliar:

the flip is just as good

a little bit longer .........if not better

is it for sale/trade?

That is a scary avatar that you have there gasher, but I guess it fits your name. My side is definitely the Secretly side. As far as trading or selling, probably eventually but not right now. I'm too attached. : )

Paulette..Love you babe was also on Contact out of Chicago..but a different layout and label colour

Paulette is a bronze label..Anita is yellow.

Was Paulette on the same label, Anita is the singer in a band called The Ivories on Wand or Despanza.

Anita Anderson was not in the Ivories, despite everyone having said that in the past. None of the members of the Ivories had heard of her or remembered her. Paulette was Paulette Despenza, by the way.

Hey, whats up Bob,

So, is that it? Just three records on the label? I'm a big fan of this Anita record and the Traits as well. Do you know where to fetch a clip of the Paulette record?

Scott: there are a bunch more contact records. You know there's two traits on the label, right, one as the original traits? I'm trying to think of some of the other ones, but I get them confused with dispo since it's the same label. I saw one the other day, it was a male artist on a gold contact label but i didn't get it, I'm going to hopefully go back and get it and I'll let you know, it looked like a deep soul thing though. there is a clip of paulette on manship's rarest of the rare, I think. There's a good record by willie cager on a cream colored contact too. There's some stock of that around so you should be able to find it, it's a nice cut.

Do you know where to fetch a clip of the Paulette

Try Manships rarest of the rare or Soulclub.org

or just ask in the wants section for an mp3

Its brilliant

wish Id never sold it

So Paulette could have been in the Ivories.

Paulette was NOT in the Ivories. Everyone else on the label was also not on the Ivories. The Traits were not in the Ivories. Willie Cager was not in the Ivories. All the Dispo artists were also not in the Ivories. If you want to know who was actually in the Ivories, listen to the actual members of the Ivories tell you who was in the Ivories in the interview I did:

I meant despenza produced, sorry I was not clear, but it was in response to a post asking about desepenza credits

The Anita Anderson record is Despenza, she just wasn't in the ivories.

So the track was recorded with Despenza, Berry played drums? I have I dig you baby by Loraine Ellison like the other version.

Seems so strange that there is a limited amount of copies on both labels when there was so much interest.

Great interview.

Hi Bobo, just been listening to the Opals radio interview, I had thought when I heard one of their earlier tracks on Okeh that they could have been The Vonnettes. The track on Cobblestone has the same bass line as Sandi Sheldon on Okeh Your Gonna Make Me Love You (Van McCoy) on both tracks but probably not.

Great to hear so much back ground info on artists and the recording sessions, invaluable.

Thanks.

Tony

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think Barry played drums, he was just a label owner and producer. A couple of artists on his label told me he didn't even write "can I change my mind" for Tyrone Davis, which he is most famous for. He had a whole bunch of brothers, they had the reputation in the city of being gangsters.

I don't think there were Opals / Vonettes connection. Did you see this website about Sandi Sheldon?

https://www.spectropop.com/SandiSheldon/index.htm

apparently a lot of the Sandi Sheldon "groups" were just Sandi Sheldon and Van McCoy.

thanks,

Bob

By the way, I have a good interview today that will be of northern interest, will post it up tonight....

Ha, now that you mention it, I think you were standing right beside me when I bought that Willie Cager from Meaty. For some reason, I hadn't made the connection of that being a Contact record.

I took a listen to the Paulette. It seems decent, but nothing totally blowing me away about it.

Speaking of Chicago deep soul tracks, I heard the Twinight comp for the first time last night. There was this one deepish track that really hit me quite hard by George McGregor And The Bronzettes - Temptation Is Hard To Fight. How hard is this to turn up? Definitely in the market!

Will be checking out some of your interviews today man, great job getting this history recorded!

Scott, I have a double somewhere of the George McGregor 45 if you need it, email me. I have to dig it out. It comes up sometimes but isn't easy to find. There is a solo bronzettes on Double Soul, by the way, probably the same group as backing George McGregor. George McGregor was Billy's Brother, by the way, but is not the Detroit George McGregor, who is Billy's cousin.

Hi Bob,

Did you know there are 2 takes of "Someday Soon" on Contact ? The one with (Gregory Washington) under the title has some extra piano all the way through the track, where as the one with (Despan Pub.) under the title does not.

Also the one "with" carries the same number, 112466, only on the "Someday Soon" side, as the Anita Anderson.

I really think I should get out more

wow, i did not know that, I don't think i've seen the first scan you have up (I always see it as the second one). I will have to look out for it now!

ps. I got the random single artist thing on Contact that I mentioned earlier in the thread. It is a record by Chuck Handy on the gold contact label. Both sides are crappy instrumentals, though.

Thanks.
