The internet was a double edged sword. It blew a lot of Soul fans out of the water but today we can hear them all free of charge.

Fifty years ago I could never have predicted any of that.

What a cracking bit of film and an insight to a very chilled and cool looking scene.. In my minds eye thought that the NS scene may have gone in a similar direction in my old age.

Having previously said the genre is made up of Poundland stylistics B sides, I'm getting a white vest, full sleeve tats and considering lowering the Kia🤣

Poundland Stylisics 😂  don't think we should judge these to harshly when you consider some of the utter shite that gets played out on the Northern soul scene over the years

I'd love to hear more about the Souleros scene and the records they've featured on their CDs. I've always enjoyed the range of styles on the alternate sides to Northern 45s I've bought, and love the Sean Hampsey Lowrider Kent compilation CDs.

Given the overlap with our scene here in the UK, you've got to love the 'Northern Souleros' tag they've chosen, with the 45 insert graphic too.

For me, Lowrider soul is a beautiful side aspect of the soul music I'm into. It's not quite the instant 'grab' of tracks that just sound right irrespective of my ability to dance as I thought I could back in the 70s. But it's brilliantly evocative music that demands your attention, and seeing that video with such committed collectors kind of wakes up your senses.

Might have to sort the BBQ skills out!

Loads of channels on Youtube from the LA guys. There are also numerous CD's issued by them and can usually be found on Ebay. And last of all try turning your Northern 45's over and playing the flip...you'll probably find some interesting group harmony / low rider stuff that you already have 👍

Good insight, unfortunately Tommy and Robert are no longer with us, both passed a couple of year's ago, pretty much at the same time, both are a massive miss

Yes flipping any record over has always been important; I used to write a few bits based on this for Shades of Soul many years ago 👍

Been exploring the genre/ scene through YouTube ect myself, seems to be a parallel lowrider funk genre or scene, largely based around the Zap sound.

Thanks for sharing. Very much enjoyed it. Interesting to see a different take on 'the music'. I have noticed odd nods to this 'scene' in films like 'Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke' & also 'The End of the Watch' where I first heard The Delfonics -'Hey Love.
