For me it has happened several times.

I used to be a dj, which meant that I searched for uptempo danceable music, but personally, for homelistening purposes I have always preferred ballads or midtempo tunes.

So many a time I bought a 7" with an uptempo A-side, but discovered an, in my opinion, far more interesting slowie tucked away on the B-side.

The Wheelsville issue of "With These Eyes" by the Fabulous Peps. "Love Of My Life" is awesome.

And NO! It is NOT on the B-side of the Wee-3 release! I was a mug to swap my Wheelsville copy for the Wee 3 issue 20 odd years ago.........TONY SMITH, COME OUT WHEREVER YOU ARE!

The favours one does for friends sometimes.......D'OH!

Bought Tangeers Oheh issue of Whats the Use of Me Trying at the Casino in 74. Flipped it to find Let my Heart and Soul Be Free.

Didn't know that this went big, and sold it to a "friend" for a fiver just before my return to the scene.

What record did you buy or trade for a specific track only to find that the other side was either just as good or better.

EG: Soul patrol - Save your love (Other side being- Need of love) 10 times better than- Save your love

Not long had a copy of the Bronzettes "beggin baby don't leave me" flip this for the Brill track "moments"

I would of Bid a lot more in the past on Ebay if i had known about the "A" side.

Bought Valentines Breakaway on SS7 when i just had started to collect soul music, think i've played the other side If you love me more.

Haven't listened to it for years though, dunno if i still like it. Will have to dig it out for a spin.

Lori & Lance All i want is you is a huge deep soul-gemm that actually prefer to the a-side I don't have to worry on Federal.

Quite agree on The Bronzetttes track, I was originally attracted to "Beggin'" as it has the same backing track as Jerry O's "Karate Boogaloo" if I remember rightly.

As far discovering b sides for me it was the awesome b side to Shawn Robinson's "My dear heart" which is called "Find love right now" on Minit, to me years no decades to track down but now is one my most treasured 45's.

I had My dear heart back in the 70s bought it again in 2001 and sold it 2003 and I never played the b-side- What did I miss?

Bob Jones played Carol Anderson - I'll get off at the next stop on one of his Solar/Horizon shows and it completely blew me away (still one of my all time fav tracks). A quick call to Soul Bowl and it was in the post. I didn't flip it over for about a year and found Sad Girl on the other side.

I bought Skip Jackson " i'm onto you girl" Dot Mar a long while back, without knowing that the wodnerful group soul of "promise that you'll wait" was lurking on the other side.

I tend to buy alot of records for semi to unknown flip sides usually deep harmony stuff , which can become annoying as the prices escalate on big hitting or scene records when your only buying for one side. A case in point would be my purchase of Arthur Freeman on Jumbo....the a side is throwaway imo but the flip is deep soul perfection.

I never played the flip of Sad Girl - and sold the record a few years back - it was mint, always regret selling. Any chance of a clip of the flip?

Cheers mate.

A similar situation to the Carol Anderson. I had a tape of Rod Dearlove on I think a Steve Hobbs show, where Willie Johnson - It's me was played (I think it was the same show that Wilson Picket - I Want You was played) and another call to Soul Bowl.

With the other side What am I going to do without your love - Savannah International.

Bought Charles Brimmer - The Feeling is in my heart - Broadmoor. The other side is the absolutely fabulous Mr Teardrops

Bought Bill Brandon - Rainbow Road - Tower, and the other side is a cracking bit of 60's "You've Got That Something Wonderful"
