Ian Seaman Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I can remember the Friendship club in Colwyn bay in the early 70's, Me and Gaz jones used to DJ there !! Ahh the good old days when you could get away with playing the same record 3 times in an hours set , try that these days !!! Gaz went on to DJ at the Pier a few times, i joined HM Forces in 78 so left the N. Wales scene, ended up in Yorkshire for my 1st posting and met a Mechanic at the camp who i knew from the Casino, he had a car so we drove to Wigan every weekend for a couple of years , which was nice . I can remember being back in Llandudno in the early 90,s and going to a soul night in Deganwy castle, and another time i was back visiting my folks i went to a soul night in a hotel down from the cinema on opposite side, a nice room downstairs in the hotel, was a good night, not sure who ran them tho !! I see Brian Rae and Katy Brown every month in Peterborough and we always have a chat about them old days in N. Wales, Had a shout off Pete Morgan and Steve Mochan recently too and i still buy records off Mark Speakman and just bought that Beach Music book off him, used to see Hartley too but he don't come over here any more, i recently sold some Shrine stuff to an 18 year girl from Holyhead who's dad used to go to Wigan with the rest of the N wales crowd in the 70's, that train used to have a great buzz, with Bazz Nutter, gary and Anne Davis from Holyhead, the Llandudno girls, the bay lot, the Abergele and Rhyl crowd, big geoff from Prestatyn etc, what a great times eh !! Anyone else remember this lot ?? Ian.

Anyone else remember this lot ?? Ian. Ian I can remember the train trips to Wigan, I used to regularly "bunk" the Train from Shotton, with Wuffer,Chris Harrop, mickey Ecellston, I remember that train trip was like something from the magnificent seven ! with crowds of nutters getting on at each stop. I remember Jacko from Rhyl (AKA the fighting Postman) going round the train asking bemused passengers for a shilling for the Gas.... and actually getting money off people I remember the Train would stop at warrington Bank Quay and we would belt across the road to that pub opposite for last orders, then hoof it back for the connection train to Wigan Wallgate, where we used to run the Gauntlet of the police (cos we didnt have a ticket) hiding under the platform then leggin it across the tracks to a big wall which we vaulted and ended up on Station Road (one guy bust his ankle jumping over the far left - instead of the far right of the wall (the difference being that the other side was on a steep hill and far left was about 10 foot drop and far right was only about six) Both Jacko and I also Joined HM Forces (i didnt know he had joined as we had lost touch) It was during a briefing at about 4 am the morning of the Landings in San Carlos Falklands 1982 I spotted this bloke and thought I was seeing things , I shouted over to him Jacko?? ... he turned to face me and it was him ...... saying what the F*ck are you doin here yer short arsed little t*at (usual terms of endearment from the Royal Marines Charm school) talk about wierd... we were both at that moment in our lives where we were about to have our babtism of fire, wondering (as we all did) whether we would live to see the next dawn.... and suddenly snapped out of it for a fleeting moment when we met each other , sitting in the half light of the mess deck full of hairy arsed Bootnecks having their last brew before the amphibious landings, having just been told that they expected a high number of casualties. We were on the upper deck when an Argentine Jet screamed in over the anchorage and dropped a bomb on us that landed on the main deck between me and Jacko..... and f*uckin bounced over the side as the fuse was set too long so it went off in the water talk about a Brown out ............ Ho Happy days !!! ... well thats enough Lamp swingin from me Jacko lives in Brigwater zummerzet now the big carrot crunchin moose, comes to Prestatyn weekenders ....cant miss him ....always at the Bar with Joe Dunlop and the Bad Shoe Gang

Guest Beeks Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 It's been bought privately and restored, should be due for re-opening about now..... Would be nice to see how it's turned out... anyone let us know.... Way off the mark Sian...wasn't there that long ago and it's still a public eyesore...locals have been campaigning to get the pier renovated for years with no success as it was literally falling apart...don't ever remember it as a club as was too young (though I remember Winter Gardens in Llandudno having Soul Nights on?) But my mum and dad used to go to Colwyn Bay Pier Years later it actually had a pretty good record shop on the site I was born in Colwyn Bay incidentally, Nant - Y - Glyn Hospital, no longer there now but used to be across the road from Eirias Park

It's a shame all the piers are being lost and some of the crap they spend the lottery money on... Nice pieces of heritage...
