I've got a query about pricing .having bought northern tunes for over 40yrs and generally know how much I want to pay for a tune ,having dipped into the crossover and new soul tunes it seem such a lottery as to how much the said tunes go for .you get somebody selling a tune that nobody has heard off and a price to match generally in the hundreds .has anybody had a bad deal with any tunes especially just the soul tunes not generally northern thanks

It can be a lottery.

Nobody knows it can mean its sold as a super rare unknown recently discovered

Or it's crap and nobody will touch it

I've seen tunes listed for £100 on an expensive dealers site which sold when Jm had copies for a tenner

You've just got to do your homework Stephen; just as you've done for the northern soul things you've been buying.

To answer your question more specifically, I've never had a bad deal because of the above. I have in the past bought records that have been covered up, at the cover up price, only for the record to be uncovered the next day, which saw the price drop. On other occasions more records have been found in quantity and again the price drops - sometimes, but not always. Other's may have been disappointed and feel hard done by, but I've always bought records on the basis that I like the record, and have budgeted for it.

That's my approach and experience; others will have different experiences. I've had a number of collections over the years, but don't buy anymore. I gave my last collection away; for nothing, in 2019. I'm sure some people will balk at that and think I was stupid; I'm just a generous sort of chap. 🫣 I do have the occasional regret, particularly as I've been unwell for the last three years, and now I could do with some money; but I'm ok with it.

Regards

Peter

I’ve learnt not to rush in,use your common sense and experience, and if it’s an unknown or a new style your dipping your toe in with, then do extra research!

personally I’m to lazy for unknowns now,it’s got have a label on it,and be a proven 45 over many many years😂
