Califonia Soul Nights

Hoping to be in sunny California for a couple of weeks from 17th May.

Can anybody give me any info on soul nights/nighters that are happening, if any?

I'm starting in San Diego and working my way up to San Francisco so anything that's happening round there can you p.m. me.?

I'm flexible with cities and dates, so I can change my itinerary slightly.

there arent a lot of soul nights in the SF bay area. its very hyphy/hipster out here with not a lot of soul nights. theres a night at Casanova bar (16th st and valencia in SF) that does Olde Soul r&b, soul, funk, northern. put on by B-Cause and Vinnie Esparza (from groove merchant record store). dick vivien at Rooky Ricardos probably knows more about folks playing that type of music out here. i think they have a website.

sorry... maybe not a lot of help but it is a couple months away and soul nights here happen when they happen.

central soul club's nights have been postponed for the time being, so no luck there. the bay area currently doesnt have much going on to speak of as hipcity soul club has lost it's venue. there is the bullet in LA, but i have heard it is questionable (though, ive never been there personally and cant really speak for it). there are a few other things popping up in LA but best to ask either Tommy Potts or Mike U. from Central about this. they are both on this site, and will likely see this thread. good luck!

Not a strictly soul night as we throw in some r&b dancers, a little raw funk and stuff, you could try my night, the Hogwash Jump Joint on the first Thursday of every month at the Bordello, Los Angeles.

Soulside! the second Saturday of the month at Nocturnal, Santa Monica, L.A. play some soul at their nights, but it's really dependant on the quality of the guests on that night.

Funky Sole at Star Shoes in Hollywood plays mainly semi rare funk and some euro funk - so very little soul, but hey, it might be of interest.

You'll hear some soul at the Bullet in Los Angeles, but nothing rare - it's all classics.

The best night for hearing quality soul is the Central Soul Club in L.A. so hopefully the guys will pull something out of the bag some time soon.
