Guest bill storey Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Can anyone give me a clue, I was at the Rightrack doo in Darlo last night and one of the djs played a really uptempo version of 'The Bottle' I didn't catch the artists name although he did say feat Gil Scott Heron, I have a copy of the slower original Scott Heron but I want this fast one too. Can anyone help me out?
tony_i Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Did it sound quite housey, Bill? Wodering if it was TTO's version from '96. Tony

Val (Chunky) Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 It was probably the version feat' Brian Jackson on Arista
Guest Lady Maverick Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I am sure there was another version but I can't remember the name of the group...Brother to Brother maybe? That's a bit faster than Gil's.
Soul Shrews Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 It was probably the version feat' Brian Jackson on Arista Original features Brian Jackson anyway. Do you mean the live version on Arista 12? pikeys dog Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 The Bottle - maysa leaks - expansion 16016 refosoul Only slightly better than the TTO version. Can't understand the point in these records. Does anybody write anything new these days, or is everything a second rate re-hash of whats gone already? Waste of the black stuff i.m.h.o.
Cunnie Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Post it up and I'll give my Jukebox Jury once-over... Here's the House mix that really is Gil Scott Heron that i posted up a while back. Don't think it's gonna be your cuppa tea though Joe but could be the version that was played.

I quite like some re-works, but straight covers I do wonder if there is a need or is it just lack of writing talent. Mind you the original artist or estate do get some money from it I suppose ?
Guest Gavin Page Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 The Bottle Part 2 - gil scott-heron & brian jackson - arista 16018 refosoul ...this is the side I prefer! And when he does it live, Oh my GOD !!!!!

Guest Matt Male Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) I could never understand why Brother To Brother was so popular. So bland. GSH has far more power I prefer the live version to the disco version. Anyone got a file of the 12"? Edited March 11, 2007 by Matt Male
Crumb Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I used to have it by Jay & Cathy's Clowns, can't remember anything about it now though so it can't have made much impression on me.
Sunnysoul Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Anyone ever bothered to flip over the original Gil Scott Heron 45 of The Bottle on Strata East ? Absolutely glorious dancer called "Back Home" , deserves to be bigger than even The Bottle ! Can somebody please post a clip of it on here !!! Thanks !
