Robbk Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 (edited) "Hey Baby!" by The Ban-Lons. Not really a "Cover", as it wasn't out yet long after Bruce Chanel's version had stopped selling - it WAS however, a "remake". "Norwegian Wood" by Hugh Masekela "Grazing In The Grass" by Hugh Masekela "Cathy's Clown" by The Ideals "Hey Everybody" by Ramona King. - original by Henry Alston Edited January 20 by Robbk 1
Popular Post Happy Feet Posted December 13, 2023 Author Popular Post Posted December 13, 2023 In memory of the very sad news and the recent loss of our Soul Brother Andy Bellwood RIP , and his terrific work at Last Bastion , I'm pretty sure he would have nominated this version , a modern day release of the highest order of a great soul classic . 4 1

Not too many decent Beatle's songs covers on the soul side but I do like E,W&F's attempt + Syretta's effort too. For me, Jose Feliciano was at his best on covers -- his take on "Golden Lady" is just sublime. One song that never really did it for me was "Pony Time" -- that certainly inspired quite a few cover versions in very quick succession after Don Covay's group's original effort ... Can't remember the artist but always liked the female version of ' got to get you into my life' on scepter, if I remember correctly. And this The best version for me Edited December 13, 2023 by Geeselad 1

Nice, new to me, second time in two days on this thread that someones posted a different version of a Jr Walker track which made me think how easy we forget the obvious ones as no one though i could have missed it posted Jr's What Does it Take on the best intro thread. Take Me has been a long time favourite of mine, nice raspy vocal on this version. Everytime I play Take Me I wish Jr's sax playing went on a little longer before the girls start singing, that Sax hits me right to the pit of my stomach. 2

Wayne Fontana ,we popped over for the night like you used to in those days from Blackpool , Bob Blackwood , Howard Wilson , Rob Laird ,Tony etc , in What was then the vehicle to own , a real cruiser , A Toyota Crown Custom , and was treated to a wonderful set of blue eyed soul , this tune amongst so many soul classics stood out like no other , and what a tune , I was only 17teen at the time but what a lasting impression,,,,, 4
Popular Post Peter99 Posted December 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 18, 2023 Not much matches Bobby Womack; my favourite soul man, Bobby is King. nicoocho Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Some nice covers on here, thanks This one, love it to bits. Brings something else to the OG, I think her voice "matches" the song and there's quite a tasty piano solo too.
Buccaneer1 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 In my humble opinion, two well worth revisiting: Soul related; Four Tops - Climb every mountain. Non soul related; Gerry and the Pacemakers - You'll never walk alone. Happy New Year all, kev

He liked his soul, so the Alan Price Set's initial four UK singles included his covers of "Any Day Now", "I Put A Spell On You" & "Yours Until Tomorrow".
