As I've said on other threads I DONT buy boots. However there are hundreds of people selling boots and buying boots everyday of the week. Without the customers there is no profit at all. OK, Amnesia is high profile right now but I think Paul is on his case and IMO it is a complete OTT reaction to keep pointing the finger at this guy. The four links were found within 2 pages of UK Ebay. What is Paul doing about these guys or is it OK to steal a very very small amount and Amnesia just got too greedy. ROD
Guest Paul Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Hello, Here are some FACTS which I hope explain a few things... I am not on a personal crusade against bootleggers but I have no choice in some specific cases. In fact I have a CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION to defend the copyrights owned or controlled by our company and / or our clients. Our main targets are always the manufacturers and wholesalers rather than the sellers. Because we had obtained HARD EVIDENCE regarding the manufacturer of a particular bootleg which infringed one of copyrights, we had to take action. First of all, I gave the manufacturer (and others) SEVERAL opportunities to cease his activities and attempt to resolve the matter without involving lawyers or the police. But he was foolish and arrogant enough to continue so we had to stop him. A website was closed down, two ebay accounts were suspended and paypal accounts were frozen. By this time several other companies and MCPS and the BPI were also involved. Suddenly, warrants were issued and a 49-year-old man was arrested in a raid on premises in Bridgend. Various items were seized in the raid. Sadly, I am not allowed to reveal much more at this stage because investigations are ongoing - but here's the really BIG question... Why did South Wales Police (CID), the Fraud Squad and investigators from Trading Standards suddenly get involved??? Being very careful how I word this... I suppose you could say it's reasonable to assume those authorities are investigating what they believe to be criminal acts of a more serious nature. Draw your own conclusions. ROD He's not a soul policeman Rod, he's looking after his own interests, that's what life is all about. He gets no publishing royalties from the Skullsnaps record so why would he be interested in stopping it?
Guest Gavin Page Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 So is this okay or not ? 160087703824 (Bay Number) Had not seen this one ?
Pete S Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Yeah it's official, though labels listed as Excello on most of the websites
Guest Paul Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Hello "Rob", First of all, I'm not your mate. Stick to defending criminal activities if you want but don't make malicious attempts to interfere with my legitimate business - especially on a public forum. It's disgraceful behaviour and it's a criminal offence - whether you use your real name or not. Paul Mooney

He gets no publishing royalties from the Skullsnaps record so why would he be interested in stopping it? Thanks Pete, We aren't an "injured party" or an "interested party" in any cases which don't involve any of our copyrights so I am unable to get involved, other than expressing a personal opinion as a private individual. And in those cases the bootleggers would probably tell me to mind my own business. Paul Mooney

Modernsoulsucks Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 . "Why did South Wales Police (CID), the Fraud Squad and investigators from Trading Standards suddenly get involved???" Is it because the potential loss of revenue to the record company is a serious threat to public order and undermining the very basis of our liberal democracy? Just a wild guess. Pete, I know Paul is doing his job and I did mention he was "on the case". I just think some of the other contributions to this debate have been hysterical and selective. As I said what's the difference to Amnesia selling boots, and the "2nd presses" on sale on this site now, from the point of view that the artists etc don't see a penny. Personally, none in my book so I don't understand why Amnesia is the Devil incarnate and everybody else is just selling 45s that aren't original or whatever justification is used. Im pretty sure if I were to go through Ebay I could find a lot of sellers who have sold boot after boot with the only difference being that they didn't press them up as well. Does nobody else think that if you were in Amnesia's shoes you'd not be too happy about what looks like a double standard to me. ROD
Sebastian Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 (edited) Im pretty sure if I were to go through Ebay I could find a lot of sellers who have sold boot after boot with the only difference being that they didn't press them up as well. Isn't that quite a BIG difference? Let's say that I should sell of a stack of bootlegs that I might have bought over the years, say 50 items, then that would've been it. Say instead that I had 200 copies each of 100 different bootleg 45s that I pressed up myself and kept pressing new ones. A big difference. A bit like when trying to bust drug leagues. You don't go after the individual sellers, you go after to the manufacturers and major distributors. Edited March 19, 2007 by Sebastian
Modernsoulsucks Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Only in the scale of the operation Sebastian. You're still selling bootlegs which are illegal. I've done it too. Bought a collection and sold the pressings off. Im sure most people on here have at least once. Im not sure how many titles Amnesia have done. I usually see up to 5 or 6 at a time when listed on Ebay. To use your drug analogy, I think they go after individual sellers all the time and users as well. ROD
