Mark68 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) This was sent to me from my good friend Adrian Leach. It's an article from the Spanish press about the legendary "soul sam" who we know to be an old(ish) white balding school teacher. The funny thing is that the picture you will see (the black fella) is actually a pic of our mate George Arthur. The pic was taken last year at the soul do in Spain that they attend. Absolutely class!!! George Arthur is Soul Sam!!! The REAL Soul Sam. Check this out; https://www.elcomerciodigital.com/prensa/20...e_20070301.html Edited March 10, 2007 by Mark68

Dave Rimmer Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 The article is even funnier when you run it through Babel Fish translation The essences use in small bottles and harness their effects if they are smelled in a single dose. The promoters of the Sounds of Unity and Love (SOUL) have made the decision to offer this year only one edition of the festival, conscious of the saturation of the panorama in general and ' weekenders' in individual. The appointment with best Afro-American black music will be east weekend in the discoteca Maite de Luanco, with two international guests who already left his impronta the last year: the British Soul Sam and Steve Guarnori. By popular aclamation, both will return to Asturias in silent partnership. There will be two national guests: Alvaro Alcalde and AgustÂn Caparr³s and three disy³queys of the house: Herminio Afonso, Luisma MartÂn and Felix To DomÂnguez. That is, all the ingredients to arm a good celebration and to listen to those vinyls that only puncture collectors with talent and encyclopedic knowledge. Let that be a lesson to us all not to use Babel for translations I had forgotten about the Picture mix up, the Spanish were all laughing about that when we met them on the Friday. The guy that is in the photo is from Crystal Palace and only really attends weekenders in Europe, but as you say the caption reads "Soul Sam" .
Guest mel brat Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) The article is even funnier when you run it through Babel Fish translation... Makes a lot more sense than SOME of the comments I've read on soulsource... Particularly like the references to "NERVOUS JAZZ" !, "...D.J.s of the earth" (as opposed to what, Mars?), also I can think of a few collectors who require "puncturing"! Mark68 Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 The guy that is in the photo is from Crystal Palace and only really attends weekenders in Europe, but as you say the caption reads "Soul Sam" . He's a top fella is George, you'll more than likely bump into him on the jazz circuit. Infact if you want to catch George doing his Mr Barnfather impersonation, you can catch him DJ'ing at the following charity gig - Happy Jazz presents 'Feelin' Happy' charity night at Ruby Lo (rear of Selfridges) on 22 March. DJ's Adrian Leach & Mark Taylor - Happy Jazz Radio Show Stuart Chalk - Fish Bowl & Brighton Jazz Rooms George Arthur & Stan Kalapita - Jazz 625 Seymour Nurse - Shiftless Shuffle & Wonderland It should be a cracking do, superb music and all proceeds go to helping children with autism.
macca Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I've always thought that babelfish was a crock of shite. Here's a more accurate translation. Martin Barnfather, known artistically as Soul Sam, is said to combine the most obscure Northern Soul with Modern Soul rarities from the 70's & early 80's. An essential part of any Soul event in the UK, he left the gang dumbstruck/blew the gang away last year. Nowt about peculiarities, thankfully!! M
