Eddie Hubbard Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Great new CD out this week from Jazzman records www.jazzmanrecords.co.uk " Sister Funk 2 " with 20 great tracks . Amongst the harder edged funk sides there are a few tracks that will appeal to Northern / Modern collectors : Rhetta Hughes " You're doing it with her " , a superb Mike Terry produced outing , Honey and The Bees " Love Addict " a wonderful Arctic label release , Big Ella " The Queen " which would go down well with the R& B crowd , Dolly Gilmore " Sweet Sweet Baby " , Barbara Mason's brilliant " You better stop it " another Arctic waxing , and the currently indemand ex Stafford side Florence Trapp " Love came into my life " .Great sleeve notes and label scans from compiler Ian Wright , one of the best compilations so far this year IMO .Best ,Eddie
Guest MrHeartbreak Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Thank you so much for this recomend. I have check out the CD and ordered it, there is one record by Big Ella "The Queen" I´m very curious of this one. Today here in Germany there is a Funk Soul Party in small club in a local town. The Djs will play Hits from the 60´s and early 70´s. Because of the world women day on the 8th of march they will play one hour only female singers and groups.

pikeys dog Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Big Ella " The Queen " which would go down well with the R& B crowd , On it's second time round now and already very popular.
Guest Russ Smith Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Ian Wright has a collection of funk 45s second to none, He also has fine taste and has followed up the equally fine( and tough to find ) volume 1 with this cracker... Should appeal to ALL soul tastes as it has R&B, crossover and Northern style tracks amongst the selections. Top work !
Guest James Trouble Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 A cracking album, must have been 4 years in the making but worth the wait Ian is "the Butch of the funk scene". Wrighty also has a very impressive northern set, as those who have heard him DJ at Chelmsford and Colchester will testify, although he refuses to call it "northern". And here's the scary part, IMO he has a better 70s set than Arthur and Sam, honestly Would be nice to see him DJing at some rare soul events, and I'm sure he'll be doing a set in the "northern" room at Soul Revolution some time soon...
Guest MrHeartbreak Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 I really love the first set and I bought it very late it maybe six weeks ago and it was very difficult for me to find a seller becasue often this item was not able to buy. Especially the opener on this compilation is very amazing Ruth Brown´s "Your a stone groovy thing". It is a very fantastic song with a lot of Funk and Groove and the piano which dominate the track is really the cream of the crop.
Guest Rowly Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 On it's second time round now and already very popular. Wrighty must have cranked it up to around +4 / +6 on this cd tho..... Sounds mentally fast. I have no problem at all with the use of the pitch control as I've said on here before..... but in this case i reckon it's not needed.... the tune stands up fine as is. Corking cd tho.... that Dolly Gilmore track is the dogs danglies!
Guest wrighty Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) Wrighty must have cranked it up to around +4 / +6 on this cd tho..... Guest wrighty Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hey Funky dudes .... How about Wrighty for northern room at the next Soul revolution , see what hes made of !! thanks simon but i much prefer the comfort zone of the funk room compared to the crocodile pit downstairs seriously tho these days the term funk is a very loose one so there'll be more northern played upstairs next time, and plenty of modern of course
