Sleeve Notes

The Falcons were an American rhythm and blues vocal group, formed in 1955 in Detroit, Michigan. Members over the years included Alton Hollowell, Bonny Rice, Eddie Floyd, James Gibson, Johnny Alvin, Lance Finney, Robert Ward, Sonny Munro, T.P. Coleman, Willie Schofield and Wilson Pickett.

Following the release of Fine, Fine Girl/Oh Baby in 1963 they disbanded when Willie Schofield was drafted and Eddie Floyd and Wilson Pickett weren't available. Robert West, manager of The Falcons refused to let his group die. He took a group known as The Fabulous Playboys (who recorded on Daco, Apollo Records, Contour and were The Ramblers on Federal Records and made them The Falcons.

Towards the end of the 60s into the 70s original members began to return under The Falcons name. The second incarnation of The Falcons continued performing as The Firestones.

Big Wheel records from New York City was founded by Frank Kocian and released singles from many Detroit soul artists which are coveted on the Northern Soul Scene. Promotion for the label was handled by Wally Roker and personal management at the label was handled by Komac Enterprises.
