Guest Trevski Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Don't think I'll be afording the on on ebay Anyone got an MP3 of this brilliant tune? 2 releases from him on Megatone, and both the DB's. (And cant aford either!)
Guest Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Both 'Tell me your name' and the other Megatone 45 'Sweet Memories' are also both available on the New Sounds lp (with whom he was the lead vocalist) which I have for sale on eBay at the moment. See eBay sales section for the link. Considerably less than the 45s!! Wicked tracks though and the lp has several more of the same standard. Ta, Miles

Ta, Miles Don't know about "tell me your name" but "Sweet memories" is a different cut to the 45, and not as good IMHO. Lacks the backing singers, and is more 'sparse' in the production.

Where "Sweet memories" is inferior in the Robert Tanner version I must say the opposite is true for "Tell me your name" (which by far is my fave cut off the album).

Loved it, hence this request! Would be interested to hear the album cut
Bjorn Nilsson Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I prefer the New Sounds versions of both songs. Maybe because I heard them first but I also like the more primitive sound they have compared to Robert Tanner.

Heard the Newsounds version of "Sweet Memories" first, loved it, but then heard the Robert Tanner, and the production makes it for me, altho' his vocals on both are sublime
paultp Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 sweet memories - robert tanner - megatone 15693 refosoul I remember when John Weston guested at These Old Shoes and he stayed round my house, I had a rummage through his play box and this is one that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It was going to go on my wants list until he told me how much and how rare it was Hadn't heard the new sounds version before but the megatone one shades it for me, though possibly its the other way round for the other track. All great tunes anyway.
Guest Trevski Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 (edited) Tough call on the "Tell me your name", but I think Tanner shades it yet again for me. Has anyone got the FULL Robert Tanner version to post up tho' (Partial clip on ebay is here) https://home.comcast.net/~deepgroove/tanner1.mp3 'Oldies only' folks listen up! How can you deny the excellence of these tracks!! It's tunes like this that keep me going to the more upfront venues. Even tho' "Sweet memories" has been kicking around for some time now, its still a special nite when that needle hits the groove Edited March 6, 2007 by Trevski
Karlm Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Also very interested in a full god quality soundfile of Robert Tanner "Tell me your name"! The second copy I've seen on eBay btw, seen a few more of "Sweet memories" and occasionally the album (sold mine there ).
Guest Trevski Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 If anyone has a "Sweet memories" hiding in their box they want to sell, old tightwad might just havta prise the wallet open for that one

Dylan Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 LP is available in 2 formats as I remember. P-Vine from Japan. And far more desireable Turbo from USA. One far more expensive and much much harder to find than the other.

This was the case with many of the early All Platinum LP's. Lovely to own as an original, but better to have the P-Vine to play.

Lovely to own as an original, but better to have the P-Vine to play. The P-Vine I've heard in the past were just as bad as the Turbo release. I understood the P-Vine lp was taken directly from the Turbo.

Agreed............try to play out tracks from the LP when DJing, so much distortion impossible, didnt AD cut 'Sweet Memories' from the LP & have it cleaned up Chalks ????. P - Vine fine for home listening tho. Russ
