Guest Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 (edited) I replayed Seven Days repeatedly in my car today on the way to work, isn't it a fab tune! A real dancer if you ask me. So, what else has this fabulous crooner done? He's got one heck of a good tone to his voice and the verbrato is to die for! Edited March 6, 2007 by ♫ Soulgirl ♫

If it's Johnny Vanelli The only other recordings I know of Mr. Vanelli's are: Something Made You Cry b/w Star Girl Name #4 Alone We Have Nothing At All b/w Is It Always This Cold Kent 4539 It wasn't you b/w Man Without his pride HiBack 117 The HiBack 45 is Northern. Tony Varnell I can't find any info on, but what agreat cover-up name.
Guest Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 LOL - as I typed Tony I thought, I don't think that was his name... I only briefly looked at the stereo as I kept hitting the back button.... I'll change the topic title *eek* I'll check on the way home - of course, it could be a typo on the CD

There are at least two other 45s on Pre-Vue: Sweet Marjorine / My Song 002 and Come / Prima / You Give Me Life 117, but I think they're just teen type things. By sheer coincidence I googled him on Saturday. There is also an Album on Kent which rather frustratingly has the flip to "seven Days" on it - "You Really Know How To Hurt Somebody" - not sure if it's the same recording as the Pre-Vue cut though. "Seven Days of loving You" is a damn good record whether it's soul or not Godz
Guest hammy Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Isn't that David Icke - Son of God? I think the picture is taken from when he used to play in goal for Hereford well before going on to present Grandstand. Is he still spokesman for Atlantis? Any photos of him in a turquoise shell suit? Hammy

Guest Bogue Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 (edited) Anybody got a scan of the original? thanks I think you would struggle to tell if it was an original from a picture anyway Dave, i think it's one of those fairly good ones where you can only tell from whats in the dead wax if i remember correctly? Guest Jamie Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Anyone got a sounclip of Something To Sleep On - Top Ten? I reckon Rachel should have it somewhere?
Guest rachel Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I reckon Rachel should have it somewhere? I have indeed got it on tape, CD and mp3 - everything but the actual record My computer at home is being temperamental when it comes to uploading files but I'll have a go later if nobody beats me to it. Fantastic tune, singing ice cream man he may be but you can't help feel for him with those lyrics... "I'm not asking you to remain, just to remember why you ever came..."

Guest vinylvixen Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 ....You get hundreds and thousands Think I better stop Better still Jamie, look at this....https://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/04/why-do-ice-cream-vans-sound-way-they.html - the bloke even says at the end 'Disappointingly no-one has produced a program to reproduce ice cream chimes'. Which is a shame as you could have a whole new genre of Northern for ice cream vans which operate in high NS catchment areas.... Just closing the door behind me.... Jo
Guest vinylvixen Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I'm off to listen...you've got me curious now, Reg.... Jo I pressed my ear up to the speaker cone and couldn't hear the chimes, Reg.... Jo
Guest Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Thanks Rupert... as Simon Cowell would say, it's a bit cabaret Not my cup of tea as it's a bit too polished a sound for me
Rupert Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Thanks Rupert... as Simon Cowell would say, it's a bit cabaret Not my cup of tea as it's a bit too polished a sound for me i know what you mean karen but it sounds a lot better played out.
Mark B Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 hi jamie i have the blue dolphin copy paul now has the top ten one they both have different b sides there is no way too tell which came first but i would say the top ten one is a bootleg the blue dolphin issue is strange in that the label is orange and the dolphin graphic is in black, next to daddy maxfield probably my top play at the greatstone. mark
Guest Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 i know what you mean karen but it sounds a lot better played out. We've discussed this phenomenon before, about different sounds from different levels and venues - I hope to hear it out and about soon then
Mark B Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 We've discussed this phenomenon before, about different sounds from different levels and venues - I hope to hear it out and about soon then not many copies knocking about it can be heard at the greatstone in manchester and steve manion may have a copy, mark
Guest Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Ahhh.. now that's the kind of American Italian pic I like to see... nothing like my Uncle Al
Guest Bogue Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Another piccy! Blake There are a couple of these Kent albums of his on Ebay at the moment, i notice that there is a version of 'More Today Than Yesterday' on there. Anyone ever heard it ?
jocko Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 21 - 1 .mp3 - johnny vanneli - 15697 refosoul Cmon this must be a joke, at least 7DOLY has the excuse of the time it was played, this is just so far away from any sort of soul music I recognise, I thought our C/O over boys were meant to focus on the soulful side, where is that funky kid when you need him!!
Guest Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 LOL - I agree with you jocko, and as for seven days I thought that was a wee bit pop-corn but the break was more than northern soul... in my humble opinion
Guest Bogue Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Cmon this must be a joke, at least 7DOLY has the excuse of the time it was played, this is just so far away from any sort of soul music I recognise, I thought our C/O over boys were meant to focus on the soulful side, where is that funky kid when you need him!! Quick split everybody its the Soul Police !
Guest rachel Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 (edited) Well I reckon if the Northern DJs are allowed the odd white pop thing then the Crossover ones are allowed the odd.. whatever this is Never really thought of this as Crossover as such to be honest, it's just a Greatstone tune to me Even if you don't like the vocal, just listen to those strings... Edited March 6, 2007 by rachel
