Sweeney Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 What's to miss? One of the greatest Northern double-siders ever made in a super-rare format. If you think people are willing to pay the best part of a grand for the relatively common Timi Yuro on Liberty how much should this be worth?

If you think people are willing to pay the best part of a grand for the relatively common Timi Yuro on Liberty how much should this be worth? just thought it's a lot to pay,and yes i agree with your comments(apart from paying a grand for Timi Yuro,i'd never pay that ,and because people may be willing to pay that for, imo, an average sound, pushes the price up of others) Sorry i'm rambling but can't be a*sed to edit,,KEV.
Guest vinylvixen Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 people may be willing to pay that Kev, click on the 5 bids....it's the same bidder who's bid themselves up from £400+ to £849...does that mean that they're bidding against themselves Jo
tone5446 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 had 2 copies on London over the years , I may be regretting selling them now, but then again 70 odd quid was a lot in the 70s. tone

I fully agree, Kev. I would never pay the sort of money people pay for Timi Yuro - it's just not that rare, although very popular. I was doing some price research over the weekend for my insurance and was mortified to see some of the prices being charged for (IMO) very average and easy to get records. I suppose the DB record represents something of a holy grail for British collectors and hence the inflated price. If two or more peple want it and have the money - the sky's the limit. I'll stick with my spanking mint grey Revilot copy sourced from a Reggae shop for £3 about ten years ago.
paultp Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Kev, click on the 5 bids....it's the same bidder who's bid themselves up from £400+ to £849...does that mean that they're bidding against themselves Jo How very odd I suspect this will end with a relisting. Surely this is the best way to own it? Mind you I've never been interested in collecting British.
Guest vinylvixen Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 How very odd I know....perhaps Bidder 1 really wants to make sure that he wins it Mind you I've never been interested in collecting British. Have you ever been interested in collecting anything other than bloke tunes I've still got my DB on the slightly less rare Stateside...infact not very rare at all - but it only cost me 50p 30 years ago and I'd never get rid of it.....I've seen London demos and sniffed the labels but never owned one...is the sniffing bit too much information Jo
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'd just like to mention in passing, having heard the mastertapes for both UK releases at various times in fairly recent history, that the London 45 is dubbed from a crackly Revilot single while the Stateside 45 is taken from a US-originated mastertape - and thus it sounds much better! TONE PS - the Stateside R & W demo is also aesthetically more pleasing too, IMO - esp. with its misprinted title "Open The Door Of Your Heart"...

Tony, the master tape info is really interesting - I'm glad I've got my 50p copy and not the more expensive £849 crackly version. However, I wouldn't mind sniffing your R&W demo That's the nearest I'll ever get to owning one Jo

Johnlloyd Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 My Stateside issue cost me 10p in a local junk shop about 35years ago, those where the days. Still sounds great today.

Soulsmith Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 had 2 copies on London over the years , I may be regretting selling them now, but then again 70 odd quid was a lot in the 70s. tone Did you get either from Iain Stewart? Only ask as I remember him acquiring one around that time. Iain was fantastic at acquiring records, but rubbish at hanging onto them.

Just has to be one of the best double siders of all time and an essential in one format or another for every soulfan. I'm a London boy myself, those Stateside reissues I can leave. Ha!

Iain was fantastic at acquiring records, but rubbish at hanging onto them. No Colin, got one from a rock 'n roll shop, 50p, they weren't interested in soul in those days, and the other from a junk shop. Also had the Red and White SS demo. Rich pickings back in those far off days before the world turned sour. Tone
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I think Tone is using a bit of poetic license there - I have a London demo, there's no snap crackle or pop. ...Be that as it may, it's definitely a disc dub, while the Stateside isn't. Maybe Steve can't hear it, but I assure everybody that it's there Actually, many more 60s US singles than anyone might imagine were dubbed from discs, when issued here in the UK. 1966-67 'Red' Atlantic issues are especially 'bad' in that respect - although before the advance of digital audio, it wasn't always as easy to spot a 'dub' as it would be now (which is probably why Steve can't hear any SC&P on the London OTDTYH, I guess, it often blends in nicely with the regular 'background noise' of even the most mint UK 45...) The odd thing about Darrell being dubbed on London is that very few other London's of the period were mastered from anything other than tape - certainly not among those I've heard, at any rate... TONE

Pete S Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 108 Darrell Banks Open the door to your heart g&wdj Stateside 150.00 A March list...... Thats the green and white demo, in other words the demo of the late 60's reissue and it's priced twice as high as it should be
funkyfeet Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 108 Darrell Banks Open the door to your heart g&wdj Stateside 150.00 A March list......Unless it happens to be the Stateside demo, I think you'll find when he has listed the London demo it was a lot higher.
Barry Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Hasn't Keith Brady picked one of these up at a bootsale in Warrington in the last few months (10p)!?
Guest vinylvixen Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Hasn't Keith Brady picked one of these up at a bootsale in Warrington in the last few months (10p)!? Dunno, but if he has, I'll have it off him for 20p There's only 3 hours and 20 minutes to go before this auction closes. You can almost cut the excitement with a cardboard sleeve.... Jo
Paul Dunn Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Anyone know what the 225 stamp is for, I have the same stamp on a number of uk demo's in my collection. Regards Paul

Timi Yuro Popsike Results (13x) Darrell Banks Popsike Results (2x) Well thats is obviously very flawed as there were at least 3 copies of Darrell Banks last year including two from radio Bristol or somewhere like that. But my apologies, I obviously know f*ck all about UK labels, having only collected them for 20 years, written a price guide to them and put out 16 issues of a magazine dedicated to them
KevH Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 has it finished yet? was thinking about snipin it
