Guest Richard Bergman Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 As a new poster, I would like to ask whether you regular posters feel that the forum is a celebration of socialism and free speech or has it been used a vehicle for dictators ?
Guest Richard Bergman Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 If you're here to cause trouble, you can piss off straight away dickhead. :graywanker: Mike/Kolla!!... ban him. link Steady on pal , I was just trying to discover as to whether the forum develops lively debates from a variety of different standpoints and sources or does it follow a similar pattern - No trouble mate, just asking a question , sorry !!!!!
Pete S Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Joe Orton, I just read your autobiography and it was the most boring book I've ever read. The film was miles better. In answer to your question. A bit of both
Mike Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 bit early for me for this sorta thing what you trying to say Joe ? badly worded post ? or out on a wind up
Guest Richard Bergman Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 bit early for me for this sorta thing what you trying to say Joe ? badly worded post ? or out on a wind up link Hi Mike , not on a wind up mate, just trying to find out whether the regular posters feel there is a good variety of discussion on the forum, didn't want to offend anyone and I apologise to anyone I have

In fact once the boot has been put in, they all join in like vultures. If you have a point of view that is different to the majority, you are made to feel like you have no business being on here as you obviously have no interest in 'soul'. And whats worse is when you get people pm-ing you saying they agree with you but didn't want to reply on list as they didn't want to be seen to be agreeing with you! SWONS eh

They don't like people hiding behind pseudonyms on here...that suggests you're hiding something I'm told...........

SWONS eh link Cheers for getting back , feel as though is the case in many forum's but there appears to be a great deal of knowledgable and informed posters on the board - and I tend to agree with you in regards to the autobiography it was a bit morose at times
Guest Kolla Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Joe - I think you'll find on here that "dictators" or those with one agenda and one agenda only are tolerated to a point and then politely asked to take a hike. If polite hints are ignored then we have no choice but to resort to random violence and torture.
Mike Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Hi Mike , not on a wind up mate, just trying to find out whether the regular posters feel there is a good variety of discussion on the forum, didn't want to offend anyone and I apologise to anyone I have link .....the badly worded post thing then Would say myself that best way for an answer to above question would be to read the back posts on here . anyway welcome to site

Guest Soultown andy Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Socialism free speech dictators, dont know about all that but i do think that forums like this and soul talk, are definatley a good thing for the scene.I would personaly prefer everybodys identity out in the open,as a few posters tend to have an awful lot to say on here but tend not to say to much when out and about at venues.Obviously this is just a personal opinion just wonder what you think about that joe, hope you all have agreat new year.

A rarity on this scene - a welsh pacifist with some great underplayed / never heard out records in his collection.
Pete S Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Y2K soul is utter shite - agreed john peel was no more important than dave godin - not in Little Soul World maybe, in the Real World, yes. I do care about royalties, bootlegs, whatever - Fine then Any venue you attended in your teens was the best venue of all time - Not true, I went to some fucking terrible venues as a teenager, I was going by the one where the music was best and has never been bettered The Boy with the Thorn in his Side and This Charming Man are both brilliant - certainly not going to argue with that! link
Guest garv Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 (edited) Pete S, Pete how would you define Modern Soul?, is it the year of release, the style or did soul music finish on the stroke of midnite 1970. Thats not a dig, i`m interested to understand. Wigan for me was part of my youth & early 20`s & i agree it is the best club ive attended but i have to agree with Kolla your first love is always the most special but i also belive in moving forward. John Peel & Dave Godin were both groundbreakers in there respective forms of music, but why do you have to choose one over the other. Again like Kolla i too care about royalties, bootlegs, whatever. The Smiths....... great band Garv. Having just reread my reply it looks like i could be trying to court favour with Kolla, NO i`m not, i dont know her but i do give her money on a regular basis. Thats not a dig, i`m interested to understand. Dunno, it's in the ear of the beholder, I like my Northern to be the traditional Motown styled 60's stuff. I wouldn't say anything past 1970. 1975 maybe. Anything with electronic percussion surely can't be soul? John Peel & Dave Godin were both groundbreakers in there respective forms of music, but why do you have to choose one over the other. Nobody has to choose mate, I just think the reaction to the death of Dave Godin was so over the top, the site was closed for a day in tribute to Dave Godin, not for Peel.

I know you mean no harm at all but I think a few of us are on our guard to spot and identify potetial trouble-causers. I am sure you will enjoy it on here and we all welcome your input mate. Shane

lisahurley Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 I can also vouch for Joe (Richard)'s credibility, though I wish he'd use the name I christened him with. I don't like favouritism but I do have a soft spot for Richard and forgive him all the pain of child-birth. He also plays a blinding set as anyone who saw him double deck with Matt Bolton at Cleethorpes this year will agree. Shame he didn't agree to wear the kitten vest and pink visor that me and his father bought for him though....

Guest Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 I know Joe Orton too, the man has foul drinking habits, is regulary in trouble with shady Law enforcement agencies and has been known to use explosives for ungodly means.............. ps....awfully decent taste in music too
John May Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 (edited) I must be a real oddity on the soul scene, I went to Wigan, and enjoyed it, I also like Modern soul......70's, Crossover, R&B, motown. Wigan for me represents a time now long gone, and yes i've got good memories, however that was then, it's now 2005 ( well nearly ), and hopefully the best record i've ever heard, is one i've not yet heard. Oddly enough I do agree with Pete s, there is a tendancy to gang up on people when they post something that disagree's with what everyone else feels, this is open debate, let's not become intolerant of other people's view points......... that's my resolution for 2005. Edited December 31, 2004 by johnmay

It's only a bloody message board for goodness sake, you should be able to say whatever you want without worrying about what anyone else thinks. John, you say in another thread you enjoy crossover, I immediately put up a post saying I think it's utter rubbish, but SO WHAT, that's what a forum is. However I await incoming telling me I am a cloth eared twat.
