An interview in today's Guardian with Pascal Jensen, Manager of AZ Alkmaar who play West Ham United tonight.

Turns out he is the son of London born singer Sue ( Challoner) who moved to Amsterdam in the 70s looking for work.

The duo appear to have had a few Dutch pop hits.

I wonder how they got the Moments, Chuck Jackson's track?

Certainly not Soussan, of course, but why on earth did someone go to the trouble of bootlegging that?

Not impossible ... there was a lot of music made in and by people from the former Dutch Guiana (now Suriname) and the quality was sometimes very high. There seems to have been a big enough market for soul-related music in Amsterdam for it to be made locally:

Billy Jones was from Texas but settled in Amsterdam and recorded a few albums there.

Apologies if this has been done to death, but one of my favourite bits of trivia is that Spooky was lead singer of the Dutch band “Swinging Soul Machine”, hence the title of their instrumental, “Spooky’s day off”

Their producers got the backing track directly from Al Goodman on a visit to Europe. Full story in my forthcoming book on AP. S&S story is quite interesting on a number of levels since there were two "Spookys". Anyway, looks like there will be some interest in it when I publish later this year.
